Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Hi, my friends called AHPRA to ask about the new bulletin on the AHPRa website about IELTS and the September 19, 2011 date..What theyve understood is, those who would submit their application after Sept 19 would be following the IELTS - 7all band score..a friend of mine and some of his friends got the eligibility without IELTS by only submitting the English certification from their uni. Actually worked. Its a huge risk. Never know if ahpra might change the rules again and impose the ielts requirement strictly..they still have to take it again if thats the case..
Oh, so you do understand that you still need the minimum 7 in all bands of the IELTS test after you graduate from a bp or conversion course. If you deem it better for you to go through the 1 year or even 2 year RN program, go ahead. It may very well help you with your English along the way. By the time you retake the IELTS, you will be more conversant and eloquent in English writing. Cheers mate.
Thanks for the info :)
I know for a fact that AHPRA will not release your RN license after the bp with an expired IELTS. I am in the same situation as you are. My previous IELTS will expire 26th of this month. My RN niece in Australia told me to retake the IELTS because her colleague's license was delayed because her IELTS expired by the time she graduated from bp. Additionally, DIAC will not also process your working visa with an expired license. So, I presently have a current IELTS test result which I took July 30. I'm about to enter the Oct intake at ETEA. God bless.
Thanks for this response joiemike. I really appreciate it.
What is ETEA again?
So I need to retake IELTS soon. I thought so. Sad.
Is that what AHPRA has stated in your eligibility letter? Oh boy, enrolled nurse (div 2) is not in the SOL (Skilled Occupation List) of DIAC. You might not be able to get a working visa nor be a PR in Australia. RN (div 1) is the only qualification acceptable.
Yes, I am going to do a Div. 2. I read in the past posts something about this and browsed through the SOL and EN was not really there. That's why I had to ask here. That's too bad.
But do you know anyone that still passed DIAC as EN though?
If I did pass DIAC and worked as EN, I was thinking I'd upgrade to RN eventually.
What do you reckon? Should I just re-apply as RN instead???
He's a pulmologist. He did my TST too haha! He just told me a certification is enough. =( I should just seek another MD then, it would be safer I guess. =) haha! I'll figure it out, then share it here soon

the national board reserves the right at any time to
require any applicants, or registrant on renewal of
registration, to undertake a specified english language
test.
note : underscore supplied by me.
the above excerpt is culled from the new guidelines regarding evidence of english proficiency to be strictly implemented by ahpra this month. so, correct me if i'm wrong, there is no way out of ielts anymore....even to those who were able to skirt away out of the requirement before. by the time you renew your license the following year, better not be shocked when you will have to submit yourself to an ielts test. it might give you sleepless nights with this question about the ielts like a pall hanging over your head. better start reviewing and take the ielts as soon as you are ready and confident to take it. i reckon it better to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. it's more stressful and difficult on your part if you will get pressured by ahpra to take the test immediately because that's what they require. being in a hurry to comply might affect your test taking skills.
I have 21 months work experience at ER.You are only given 1 year to undergo the bp without extensions. At least that's what AHPRA Victoria told me in the letter. But I heard the Perth office gives 2 years. I'm not sure. Could anyone confirm this?
A friend of mine received his eligibility letter from Perth last June. He said his letter is valid for 2 years.
Most of the forumers here go thru ahpra 1st for registration. after you get your eligibility from ahpra, you undergo bp for about 3 months. Then you are registered as div 1 nurse in Aus. You apply for a job with employers. When you get accepted, your employer will sponsor you for a working visa. After about 1 or 2 years, you can apply for permanent residency. That's when you go thru anmc for assessement for immigration purposes. The anmc process will be shorter, cheaper, and faster because you are already registered with ahpra and presently living and working in Aus already. At least this is what my niece has done and what i am doing also. You can also go thru anmc first. It's really up to you. There are many ways to kill a cat.
Hi! I am a Nurse in the Philippines. What if I go through ANMC ( ANMAC) first for assessment for migration purposes. , I understand that they have 5 criteria but with regard to WORKING EXPERIENCEhow many years of WORKING EXPERIENCE do i need to be approved by ANMAC to migrate in Australia?
I would really appreciate your reply. Thanx

Wow! thanx a lot..does it matter which place u get approved by APHRA? Is it like if you get the APHRA eligibility letter from PERTH, you need to only get the bridging course in PERTH?while if you receive an APHRA eligibility from VICTORIA, there you can only look for and take a bridging course?
