Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

thank you hot_rod3484!:)
Thank you cioman for your reply regarding the OET. I know it is accepted by AHPRA but I am unsure whether it's also accepted by DIAC for a 457 application. So do you guys know anyone (a classmate in BP perhaps, or one of your colleagues) who used OET as proof of English FOR DIAC and are now under a 457 visa? I want to know if someone has succeeded in this alternative route... Thanks again
i took oet instead of the ielts exam and it was recognized by diac
what is the problem with the NBI? I could not start my applications with some of the BP providers because I dont have a police check. The local NBI office here in my area said that the earliest time they could give me my NBI clearance is on the 2nd week of September not to mention that I had lodged my application for that clearance last July 22. What a hassle!

Is an nbi clearance a perequisite? Should I lodge an application now?

Hi RN oz1!
I was just wondering if you could share with us a littel bit about OET...
Is it easier or more difficult than IELTS? Did u take it in OZ or in ur homecountry? Did u take any reviwes before the test or were u a self-learner?
Sorry for so many question but I´ve never met anyone who has taken OET before and I believe it´s the same for many forumers here.....
Thank you:redpinkhe
@RN oz1
Thank you for your reply. I am actually contemplating on taking the OET instead of IELTS in Australia. My IELTS has expired already (couple of months ago) and although I have used it for my AHPRA application late last year, I know that DIAC will surely require proof of English for a 457 visa. I'm hesitant because as NurseNathalie have said only a few people know about OET and there's not much info about it, not to mention review mats and such. I'm bound for CON this September and I know there's a schedule for the OET on October. Still thinking about it though.. Anyway, thanks again
Those who are going to CON on September (or are currently there for their BP) I have a question: Have you applied for the Police check through the Australian Federal Police? CON's requirement is that aside from our police check here (NBI/police clearance), we're required to submit one from Australian police. How did you go about it? Did you apply form here (sent app form with money order or cheque)? Or will CON allow us sufficient time to apply for a police check once we're already in AU?
I emailed the coordinator of CON yesterday and I asked for a list of all other requirements. I was only thinking of the vaccinations and that I could complete them while waiting for my visa. I was surprised when she replied and said that we still need an Australian police check. That's an additional $43 there tsk tsk tsk...
ok so I called AHPRA today and asked if they received my nursing registration from my state board. They did receive my previous state's license but not my current registration, although I know my current state board sent it a week earlier than my previous state board.
I don't know if I should call them again some other day and maybe they just overlooked some documents, or wait til I receive an official confirmation.

What I´ll do when I get my so dreamed letter, is to first apply for my bp and visa and make sure that everything´s alright before I resign.
May God hear our prayers and the wishes of our hearts!:redpinkhe
