New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

are you familiar with FLINDER's uni in adelaide ?!:)

I won't recommend doing BP at Flinders Uni coz their BP takes 1 yr. Try looking at UniSa or University of Adelaide, I think 1 of them offers 6 months BP program.

do it yourself.just easy..but you need to have patience and have time reading this forum from page 1..you'll learn everything about processing..and its cheaper than having an agency :) goodluck

thank you for your reply! gotta be patient in reading this forum. :)

On average, how much is the cost of health insurance while we are doing BP? anyone?

Try http://www.ahm.com.au they offer tailored insurance for students.

It's a no brainer, of course. Applying by yourself won't cost you anything other than the Aus$450.00 processing fee with AHPRA (This excludes the cost of mailing, documentations, and the cost of Bridging Program). But you have to do everything by yourself just like most if not all of the forumers here. It's easy and very doable for as long as you have the patience for the legwork and diligence to research on your own. If you want help, read from page 1 of this thread. Consider this thread as your "professional agency" and do it your self manual entitled "An Idiot's Guide to Becoming a Filipino Registered Nurse in Australia"... rolled in to one!!!! .....:D:yeah::clown::heartbeat:up::jester:;):nurse::lol2:

thank you joiemike! Are you registered already in australia?

Just got my eligibility letter from AHPRA last month. Next step, enrolling for bp the soonest available intake in any school and state even as far as Tasmania....hahahaha (I hope not!!!!):lol2::lol2:

i'm planning to consult IDP and enroll for post grad BSN at Flinder's since it's the only uni that accepts RNs like me who does not have 2yrs experience. It would only take a year to finish the course, and hopefully if i'd make it, maybe then i can apply for a working permit? Am i on the right track? hahaha i guess it's far better than studying E.N for 1.5years right... :uhoh3:

Who says you need to have at least 2 years work experience to become an RN in Australia? I only have 20 months work experience myself. AHPRA only requires 3 month experience whether as staff nurse or volunteer nurse to become eligible. But most schools that offer the 3 month BP course though prefer 1 year work experience.

My niece, herself, didn't have any work experience at all and she is now an RN in Australia working in aged care after undergoing the 3 month BP. She will come home this month for a 2 week paid leave in her 6 months of work with her company.

What I'm saying here is there is really a cheaper, faster way to become an RN in Australia. There is a complete list of the 3 month BP schools mentioned in the AHPRA website, and I'm sorry to say, Flinders Uni isn't one of them...:uhoh3:

Hi Bob! im actually contemplating now as to which pathway will i choose, the uncertain 3months bridging program(13k aud @IHNA) or the 1 year program at ECU or Murdoch (15k aud @ Murdoch) uni in Perth since i have a relative there so i can save on accommodation. Anyways, if I take the 3months bridging, then definitely i will be in a business short stay visa, then what if after my bridging program I cant find an employer who will sponsor for my work visa? Of course i"ll head back to the phils since my visa wont allow me to stay further in oz, i"ll be drowned in debt eventually since i'll loan some amount to finance my BP. So chances would be slim....

But if i'll take the other route , the 1year RN conversion program, then i'll be in a student visa which will allow me to take part time job as carer in nsg homes, of which can somehow suffice my expenses, and somehow the nsg home i'll be working part time may absorb and sponsor me for an RN position after commencing my RN conversion course. Or at least, with my 1year stay in OZ, it would be easy for me then to scout for job postings sponsoring RN for work visa. Time is running out so I have to decide asap. help please....

i also have the same dilemma. yep the latter program is longer but the student visa is beneficial.

hello independent_chiq.... their agent replied to me around 2 days after receiving the documents... Why don't you give them a call or send them an email asking them to confirm if they have received your attached documents. I did just that to all the schools I have applied and almost all of them told me they haven't received the email. I guess it was placed in the spam folder due to its numerous attachments...:uhoh3:

Hi Mhai! Thanks for your advice!:D I called their office yesterday to confirm if they have received my application and after a few minutes I received a confirmation from them through e-mail. Now, my question is how long did it take for you to get an interview schedule after you have received the confirmation? :D. Thank you very much!
