New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

please clarify, if im on a student visa and the program will only last for 3 months, then i can only work for 3 months as well?

if i have a family and i want them to come along with me, is it advisable to just take the 1 year conversion program (student visa)

hi guys! how's everybody here?

For those who had their IRON and placed a job, I would like to ask if you can suggest me hospitals, nursing homes or agencies that provide sponsorship for nurses here in Australia?

Thanks!

ishtin,

just in case nobody answers your request, I would suggest try completing the application form. Print 2 copies. First copy would be your "practice" form, and the other would be your final application form. That's what I did. In that case you'll know what items you're having trouble answering and you can ask the people here.

Regarding the CV. There's a format in AHPRA's website. I guess if you follow the guidelines, you'll be fine.

Good Luck.

hello! IDP Manila helped me in processing my papers. I waited for my CoE less that a month, now I am waiting for my visa.. I am expecting it 2nd week of Feb max. As long as your documents are complete and you follow all the steps, your processing will be smooth.:redpinkhe:nurse::clown:

I'm planning to have my counselling with IDP regarding the bridging course to be registered in aus. is it ok if my experience is only a 2-month skills enhancement training in a hospital?

I know this is out of topic. But I just want to ask -- Is there anyone here who has tried taking the OET in lieu of IELTS? I know proof of English proficiency is required by DIAC when you apply for the 457 visa. I tried searching their website but all I see is OET being acceptable for a student visa.

Those who are already on a 457 visa, were you advised or do you have any idea if OET is accepted by DIAC when applying for a working visa? Thank you to those who will reply :)

Hi Bob! im actually contemplating now as to which pathway will i choose, the uncertain 3months bridging program(13k aud @IHNA) or the 1 year program at ECU or Murdoch (15k aud @ Murdoch) uni in Perth since i have a relative there so i can save on accommodation. Anyways, if I take the 3months bridging, then definitely i will be in a business short stay visa, then what if after my bridging program I cant find an employer who will sponsor for my work visa? Of course i"ll head back to the phils since my visa wont allow me to stay further in oz, i"ll be drowned in debt eventually since i'll loan some amount to finance my BP. So chances would be slim....

But if i'll take the other route , the 1year RN conversion program, then i'll be in a student visa which will allow me to take part time job as carer in nsg homes, of which can somehow suffice my expenses, and somehow the nsg home i'll be working part time may absorb and sponsor me for an RN position after commencing my RN conversion course. Or at least, with my 1year stay in OZ, it would be easy for me then to scout for job postings sponsoring RN for work visa. Time is running out so I have to decide asap. help please....

and I think we're on the same boat!

IDP suggested that i'll take the 1 year bridging program at Flinder's (considering i don't have the needed work experience). So i guess i'm taking that route hehehe

i'm planning to consult IDP and enroll for post grad BSN at Flinder's since it's the only uni that accepts RNs like me who does not have 2yrs experience. It would only take a year to finish the course, and hopefully if i'd make it, maybe then i can apply for a working permit? Am i on the right track? hahaha i guess it's far better than studying E.N for 1.5years right... :uhoh3:

It sounds like you are going for a Graduate Nurse Program. It's usually for a year and you are rotated in 3-4 wards. Please check with your IDP (what's IDP?) I don't know if it's the same as BP. Whether it is GNP or BP as long as it is not an EN course. No offence to all ENs reading this thread.

Doing an EN course will never get you a PR.

You don't/can't apply for a work permit. What you must do before you finish your BP is find an employer who will be willing to sponsor you for a work visa. They are few and far between because of the GFC but they are there for people who work for it.

my friend is studying at Flinders right now. I don't know what specific program but I know she said it's a "post registration" nursing program. She's got no nursing experience so maybe that's the reason she opted for this route.

Their intake is mid-year, right? So you will take it next July?

Short and easy answer for you - take the 1 year BP program and live with your relative in Perth. Unless, your relative can find you an employer that will sponsor you after your BP then take the short route.

Also do you know that you can bring your husband/wife/brother/sister and they can work full time. You can only work for 20 hours a week.
