New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Hi everyone,

Just got done with the IELTS test today!!! Whew, still many examinees!!!

Had to retake the test before the BP because my previous result will expire this Sept.

Anyway, would like to share with you the recent changes :

1. The speaking test is held a day before the written portion. Apart from your passport, they take your picture and digital imprint of your right index finger. You are to log on again the following day using this method.

2. They're stricter now with pencils, cellphones, erasers. I inadvertently brought mongol # 1 pencils and they disallowed them. Good thing they provided me with the regulation pencils for people not following instructions (hehehehe).

3. You are absolutely not allowed a bathroom break for the whole duration of the written exams. I pity those with bladder problems. I had to stop the urge to pee in the last hour of the test (hahaha).

4. I don't know if this is really true or not but the IDP watcher told me that your speaking examiner will also be the one to check your written test. So, it's best to give your best impression. I don't know though if a Caucasian is more lenient and forgiving of minor mistakes than a Filipino. (I will soon find out the difference since my previous examiner was a Filipina).

5. Although I found the dialogues in the listening test to be faster now than before (I missed one answer), I found the rest of the tests the same or a bit easier than the previous one. It, probably, boils down to preparation and concentration before and during the exam. Or, maybe, I have anticipated the kind of tests already as this is not my 1st time.

So, God bless everyone who took or are about to take the exam. I hope everyone gets the minimum score of 7 in all bands. ;)

Hi joiemike! I'm retaking my IELTS next month because mine is expiring in December. What pencil are we suppose to bring then? Mongol #2? And let me know as soon as you find out which is more lenient, my previous examiner was a Caucasian. Anyhow, I hope you did fine! I'm sure you did. God bless! :)

reading from your posts specifically regarding IELTS, in my own understanding we need valid IELTS when:

1. applying with AHPRA

2. during bridging program

3. for registration after BP

and

4. when finding for work/ sponsor work (this I'm really confused)

Kindly correct me if I'm wrong guys :)

Hi isingrin,

Yup, mongol # 2. Now, I am getting anxious again!!!! I hate this feeling. I want PLEASURE.... not PRESSURE!!! Different scenarios are starting to creep up my brain again. And I thought having the AHPRA eligibility letter was almost the end to my torment of uncertain future. WAAAAAAHHHH!!!! And I still have to find a BP slot for this year, hopefully. And this damned NBI clearance thing is not helping. I heard in the news that the lines are so long owing to their snail-paced system.:uhoh3::devil::crying2:

hello guys!

any updates on your bp applications?

are all bp schools already full for this year?

Right, me too, I thought things will be easier after AHPRA. :( With the NBI clearance, my friend renewed his in a mall, he started to fall in line at 9.30AM (got the 437th number), was asked to come back at 1PM then again was asked to come back at 4PM to fall in line until 7PM, he got his nbi clearance at 8PM. He advised me to come earlier than 9.30AM and just come back in the afternoon. Go ahead and try that! Good thing I was able to renew mine before this new system started. :)

Hello everyone! I am currently here in ozi under a 457 visa for nearly a year now. Lucky that I got sponsored by the hospital where I had my clinical placement. AHPRA did not exist yet at that time I applied. I'm from the Philippines with one year hosp exp. Do not ever lose hope in your dream of coming here. It is a tough road, so many struggles and heaps of challenges, but always believe that God has plans for you.. If you fail, then maybe it's not meant, but then you'll definitely fail if you stop trying. I'm in a rural area(northern part) and recruitment of nurses is ongoing.. always pray and keep the faith! cheers!!

Thanks for the reassurance ziggyldy. I definitely will not be choosy. I don't mind working in rural areas as long as the pay is good. I reckon there is less competition for jobs there considering the distance to the metro. The bright side of working in rural areas is that you don't get easily tempted to buy things or watch movies or eat at restaurants. I hope the rent is cheaper too.
