New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

It is self explanatory what each job is, carer/nursing assistant - same thing, well RN mmmm not sure.

Wages are crap for pca.carer, nursing assistants. same as for RN's in aged care, though they get paid much more than a carer I would have thought.....unless te employer has employed lots of overseas RN's that are not in the union and are accepting poor wages just for a visa!!

What is the major difference between a Carer, Assistant in Nursing, and RN in a nursing home in terms of Job function? And if you don't mind, around how much is the starting salary of an RN and a Carer? thank you

Carer, Personal Care Worker, Nursing Assistant - all the same; they assist residents in their ADLs. RNs and hopefully with ENs do the drug rounds, wound management, all sorts of assessments, tons and tons of paperwork, and get paid less than their hospital counterparts. Salary wise, carers I think get minimum wage or more depending on experience. RNs get paid based on the current 'pay scale' which is based on your experience.

I visited the office of AHPRA Queensland last month to inquire if they are to open BP this year in the state. They said that they were supposed to start offering the program earlier this year but didn't happen. Anyway, they told me to keep in touch to get updates. Will post as soon as I contact them if something good comes up. Am really really really hoping some miracles happen for all of us wanting to finish BP this year.

Just got home after a long day reviewing for the IELTS (my first day), ang now this?! Ugh!

God help us all :crying2:

hello sweet tooth ! where are you reviewing for your IELTS ?

Hi everyone,

Just got done with the IELTS test today!!! Whew, still many examinees!!!

Had to retake the test before the BP because my previous result will expire this Sept.

Anyway, would like to share with you the recent changes :

1. The speaking test is held a day before the written portion. Apart from your passport, they take your picture and digital imprint of your right index finger. You are to log on again the following day using this method.

2. They're stricter now with pencils, cellphones, erasers. I inadvertently brought mongol # 1 pencils and they disallowed them. Good thing they provided me with the regulation pencils for people not following instructions (hehehehe).

3. You are absolutely not allowed a bathroom break for the whole duration of the written exams. I pity those with bladder problems. I had to stop the urge to pee in the last hour of the test (hahaha).

4. I don't know if this is really true or not but the IDP watcher told me that your speaking examiner will also be the one to check your written test. So, it's best to give your best impression. I don't know though if a Caucasian is more lenient and forgiving of minor mistakes than a Filipino. (I will soon find out the difference since my previous examiner was a Filipina).

5. Although I found the dialogues in the listening test to be faster now than before (I missed one answer), I found the rest of the tests the same or a bit easier than the previous one. It, probably, boils down to preparation and concentration before and during the exam. Or, maybe, I have anticipated the kind of tests already as this is not my 1st time.

So, God bless everyone who took or are about to take the exam. I hope everyone gets the minimum score of 7 in all bands. ;)

How can these people who are students in a bridging program working? most visa a short term business, not allowed to work! only on student visa can you work no more than 20hrs a week.

Cannot be sponsored for long term visa as a carer or nursing assistant, these occupations are not on sol list.

How come they are employing filipino nurses only? Its illegal to employ based on race. Is this employer even advertising for citizens or permanent residents first before óbsorbing"" nurses from overseas?

All of them are on student visa so they are allowed to work 20 hours per week. They are studying certificate III or IV Aged Care. They are working for 6 mos - 1 year for that nursing home. My clasm8s are just lucky because after 4 weeks of theory they will go back to brisbane and do their clinical placement in the nursing home where they are also working as AIN (assistant in nursing) and their employer promised to hire them as RN after finishing the program.

Ceridwyn, I said they prefer/like Filipinos nurses because most of their previous and current RNs are Filipinos with very good track record. They are not closing their doors to Australian and PR nurses. I believe that there is no racist connotation on my previous statement. Let me remind you that this thread are for Filipino Nurses (look at the title of the thread) so there is nothing wrong in sharing experiences of fellow Filipino nurses.

I'm confused pls help me ..

I'm still here in Philippines doing some volunteer work as RN for 1 year already

My brother in Australia told me to get at least 2 years nursing experience before he sponsor me ( I don't know much about sponsorship )

I am also a second courser and I think my credentials are not that good for example my TOR. Do you think APHRA will give special consideration to those applicants who are migrants? I don't want to be an EN hope that they dont demote me.

Is there a free BP ? I don't have the money to support the BP and my brother wont support me for BP

Is there another way to become RN in Aus aside form BP?

If BP is only the way to become RN in Aus maybe I will work as a carer first and save money

How much is the average salary of Carer in Aus (NT) rural ? pls answer so that I can assess how long I will save for BP

Thank you so much to all

What Ielts review center did you reviewed ?

Hi I have a few questions about filing my application.

1. Do I need to send an original Statement of Service or is it enough to send a Certified true copy?

2. I am currently working in Riyadh, but I will be going home this August. Do I need to provide a police clearance from Saudi Arabia or can I just get an NBI clearance from the Philippines?

3. Section D: Registration History The board requires a cert of Registration from every Jurisdiction outside Australia. you must arrange for original cert to be forwarded directly from the licensing authority to The nursing midwifery board. I am currently working in Riyadh and will be going home this August. Do I need to provide a cert of good standing from the Licensing authority here in Saudi Arabia? I already have my cert of reg from here but the problem is they do not forward documents anywhere instead they gave me the copy in a sealed envelope. what shall I do... Help please. Thanks..!!!!!!!

Please read the previous posts regarding IELTS. I don't think there is another way other than getting the minimum score of 7 in all bands.:o
