New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

hi there i am opting for a future in Australia. I read this news that recently Australian government is holding applications for foreign nurses beginning this year until 2013? here's the site http://www.mb.com.ph/node/325831/au

however, the posts and replies in this forum are seem to be positive. i am really confused. I hope i can be enlightened with the current situation there and if the chances for application are still good

ANOTHER ROAD BLOCK :crying2:

I would still check Oz's immigration website. They still have RNs in the SOL. For how long, we don't know. If you are after a 457 visa, SA might not be the place to go for now as per my previous post. Don't know about other states. I know a friend's son got a 457 visa in Canberra after his BP here in SA.

Probably easier for those who have relatives in Oz except those that are not in 'designated areas' like Brisbane etc.

I heard about this a few months ago. But was quickly warned about putting down PI nurses new grads enthusiasium for coming to Australia, as I know of several facilities that have stopped sponsoring...cheaper to pay agency for the small shortfalls that they have now and no responsiblity.

Australia is now concentrating on skilled people it needs in all its health professions, trades...for many years there was a system that if you studied in Australia it was straight to pr (after some waiting of course, but they had rights to pr.

They (immigration) have new points system (Pi nurse 25-35, without 3 years experience in own country, claiming independent skilled assessment would be lucky to get 55 points out of the 65 points required) without sponsorship. (you need near interpreter qual to get the community language 5 points)

Doing a Masters will not help as you can only claim for one qualification and it will not help to get sponsored work if you still have no nursing experience, bit different over here as if you have a high qualification that is not graduate entry, it is expected if you have a Masters that you have a great deal of nursing experience in some specialty or general nursing so a BSN with a Nursing Masters, you will be expected to have about 5-10 years nursing experience.

It will be like the US of A if an employer can prove through advertising they cannot get a local with the qualifications, expertise for their position then they will be able to sponsor.

Not to say sponsorship visa for little experienced nurses are not around look for regional hospitals and nursing homes ....but from what I have heard easy sponsorship for RN's they are not plentiful anymore thats in Victoria...network, network, network.......with nurse friends or relos working over here. The BP schools flooded the market here, as they often do clinicals in the places that could offer sponsorship that was constantly available and often taken by the students.

everyone, just a thought when reading news article (esp. from a philippine paper):

1) the "title/headline" is not 100% accurate, sometimes it is just 50% correct, sometimes it is even deceiving and most of all the title/headline do not contain the "exceptions".

2) besides reading an article from one newspaper, also research for an article of the same topic/news from other

newspaper/s.

3) using our "ielts 7 reading" skills, read the whole article and understand it. in this way, you will understand

the "if's" and "but's" and the parameters of the comments written on said article.

cheers!

Hello LOimVE!

I passed mine at WA also and I was informed last June 20 that all my requirements are already complete. They emailed me that my documents is waiting in line for the case manager to see it. Nothing is quite certain yet but I just want to be thinking positive.hehehehe...

How much is the tuition fee for CON? Correct me if I'm wrong, If you completed your BP in a certain State, for example Victoria, then your Registration as a nurse would only be in Victoria..is this correct? My criteria for Choosing a BP provider is based on the availabilty of nursing jobs of the state..I have a friend in Melbourne who said that there is still a lot of jobs there so I am opting to do my BP in Victoria.

The tuition fee for CON i believe is about 10k aus dollars, same in other institutions also. I dont know if you will be granted nursing registration only in the state where you took the BP.. I completely have no idea.. From what i know, after the BP, one will be registered in one governing body which is AHPRA, like the PRC here in the Philippines. And that registration, I think, applies to all states in Australia....... hmm. Not so sure about this.

Availability of nursing jobs varies in time. So im not thinking of that now.. Im thinking of finishing the BP first, because I know that there are STILL jobs out THERE and that it would be easy for us to find one if we will just persevere..

I just want to share, I recently receive my eligibility letter from NMBA VIC. I sent my application last February 2011. Is there anyone here planning to take their bridging program this coming August or September 2011, and in what school? I'm still undecided as to where to take my bp. I'm having a close look at CON, Castlemaine, and ETEA any recommendations? As for the visa, what type would be the best option (Student or Business Visit) and how long is the processing? Thank you

Hi. I got your PM, but unfortunately i cant send PMs yet because i still lack enough posts. :p anyways, can i reply to you here? The earliest month i want to take the BP is october. August and september are too soon for me.. Have you decided where to take your BP? I believe IHNA and CON will have intakes this September.

27 months? so that would be 2 years and 3 months? is that for real??? you volunteered that long. WOW...

bro, your question has been asked a lot of times already. i also raised that question last week.

it is an accumulated experience bro..and i was a reliever for a year but my job description is not a "staff nurse" so technically it is just a volunteer experience...

our question had just been answered..it doesn't matter where you'll have your BP,as long as you finish it you can practice in any state afterwards.

Hi guys!

Just received my eligibility letter today. Yipee! :) Thank God I did not have to wait that long.... Anyone out there who is in the process of finding a BP school to enroll to? I need a companion. :) please PM me.

Hi there!

I got also eligibility already and planning to take at the college of nursing in sydney...

I need also a companion with my friend...

Please email me at [email protected]

Thanks.

Congratulations! Wait for me...i'll be receiving mine very soon. Where do you plan to take your BP? For me, I am thinking of doing it in INHA, Mercy or La Trobe.

Hi there...

Im also applying for BP, but I think I'll go to CON in Sydney.

I'll prefer it rather than mercy because mercy got only 2 weeks for theory and I dont think thats enough to understand the Australian healthcare setting.

and La Trobe is better but there next intake would be january next year... More time waiting...

If your up to CON, please email me at [email protected]

Thanks a lot.
