New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

flymeherethere is definitely right. Having to review and retake the ielts to get the 7 TBS is still the shortest, cheapest, most logical thing to do.

I have friends who have taken the ielts 2, 3, 4 times and eventually have gotten the desired score. Even if you hire a personal english tutor to coach you and personally correct your mistakes, it will still be a lot cheaper than going through the diploma course. And even the new points system of skills migration is giving a premium to a 7 ielts score in all bands.

On the other hand, in going through the diploma course, your path to permanent residency is precarious to say the least. Your desire to become an AURN is so uncertain with the path you are taking.

The Diploma of Childrens services is child care, nothing else, babysitting. This diploma has been pushed at people here in Australia, usually girls and mature age that are on unemployment benefits for a long time or single mothers that needed a certificate so that when their child is 6 they would be able to enter the workforce.

Child care centres cater for children between 6 weeks and 6 -7 years as a diploma holder you would be given a 'room' leader position, which means you would give direction to any untrained or certificate 1v holder and if in a kindergarten room make curriculum for activities if there is no degree trained early education teacher....ho hum ho much fun....

In Australia child care workers are not allowed to ever say 'no' to children but say, things like 'you make me sad that you felt the need to hit peter like that, lets go and find more acceptable ways to play' If you smack a child would be instant dismissal and never have a job in child care again.

I have heard the parents are usually pretty open about how precious and wonderful their children are so there is no recall to tell parents how horrible their kid really is, even if it hit and punched every other kid in the building and .nooooo child care is not the way to go.....especially if it does not guarentee any permanent visa and the pay is I was told lower than personal carer .get the IELTS at 7. stick to nursing.

STill your choice though...

I myself took ielts 3x and I'll be taking it all over again until I pass. I know the reason I failed because I did not exert effort on study/ review. I had borrowed books from the library but it is not been browse by me. Maybe it's all about sacrifice and perseverance. And this time I'll do my best cause time is moving too fast and my husband is pursuing me to do nursing than work at the bank with a few hours shift. He's right anyways.

So girl don't give up. You have it all with you. Good for you you've got experience unlike me nothing at all.

here it is but i included gaps explanation from Q13 (again):

Q. 11 & 12

Can you share your answers/sample answers in Q 11 & 12? Where did you put your school info, if you're 2nd courser, did you include your 1st course? If you are a CGFNS & NCLEX passer what is the general format of your answers/did you include it?

Q. 13

How did you explain yours gaps from nursing registration up to working? If you reviewed NLE or study for foreign exams, take an IT course or etc, will you need a letter to explain this? or do you need letter from your review centers or non -nursing institution or from a lawyer certifying these gaps? do i have to provide receipts to prove this?

Q. 16

In certifying that your 2ndary education & nursing program was taught in english, do you request this from the school or you need a lawyer to make a letter? do you send this together with your application form or have the school send this to ahpra??

APHRA will not assess your application without an IELTS. Better concentrate on your review first, get the required score then submit your application. :)

As answered before you must take IELTS, english must be taken at secondary school and nursing school in english speaking country to be excused from IELTS.

I had to be witness once for a nurse with poor english skills in an acute situation at a hearing, not long after the IELTS was elevated to 7.

She thought she spoke well, but no one could understand her and she was not exactly understanding everyone else neither, drugs are different names, iv fluids are ordered differently etc. etc. Telephone orders are quite common in hospital and oh my, when you have someone who does not speak clear english..

We in Australia loathe getting overseas call centres, nobody understands us and we do not understand them at call centre.....bain of life.
