Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

case #1.. me.... never been in australia, lived in the phils., applied online for job in australia, hired, process my 457 visa (while still in phils.), approved 457 released, MUST GO to POEA to get OEC document.. because i cannot go out of the airport/country without that..case #2.. my colleague RN, studied BP in Australia using student visa (or 456 visa or tourist visa).. finished BP, applied and hired as RN, applied for 457 while in Australia, THE THING is while 457 was still in process she went home in the phils., then while in the phils., her 457 visa was approved.. she bought ticket and confidently went to airport presenting his 457 visa, that's it, cannot go out, she has no OEC..
case#3 you finished your BP, you find job, AND YOU NEVER went home, thus your 457 visa was released while in Australia, then of course no need of OEC because you are already in Australia..
case # 4 which all of you should remember (and don't blame anyone if you do not read this post as ive already gave a warning in the previous post), if i who is a 457 visa holder, will go home for vacation in the phils. then i must still get again a new OEC so that i will not be stopped in NAIA when i go back to Australia.. (if you are a PR, student visa, 456, tourist visa then you do not need this OEC).. this is clear to everybody, i hope so, and remember this post when you go back home for vacation if you are still on 457 visa..
what's OEC, read POEA for complete info.. any clarification about it, then post question then, after reading POEA..
cheers!
Thanks a lot cioman. This is a very useful info. I'll keep it in mind. I will also tell my niece who is now in australia with a 457 visa.
Hi Everyone,I'm pushing throug with CON in Burwood.
Could anyone recommend a place for vaccinations here in Manila? I think I'll be needing the following:
dTpa
Hep B
MMR
Mantoux
Influenza Vaccine
Any affordable laboraties anyone could recommend?
Thank you!
We will be classmates I'm sending my application requirements tomorrow through DHL. Sorry can't help you with the vaccinations as I am not from Manila :) See you soon!
I thought intake is 25 April? http://www.nursing.edu.au/pdf/CON_2011_RTO_Handbook_Web.pdfHey. I think there is a discrepancy with the schedule of classes. Just received an email from CON confirming that the start of classes will indeed be 27 April 2011 as 25-26 April 2011 are public holidays.
to all those who are following this thread, the oec mentioned by cioman, by the way, is the overseas employment certificate (oec) from the poea. this is required for those who have working visa (457) in australia who might come home for vacation.
since you are using a working visa in your exit from the philippines for re-entry to australia, you will be required to present the oec at the philippine airport terminal.
you can apply online anywhere in the philippines through www.oecdelivery.com.ph - the fees are less than p3k. you might balk at the fees but it's only a one time fee. the upside is you will be exempted from airport terminal fee and travel tax. just present your oec document at the airline counter upon check-in.
hope this information will guide everyone. thanks again cioman for the info.

have you checked with the clinic/hospital nearest to your place? even if clinics and hospitals don't have the stock, they know where to order vaccines :)

cioman, thank you so much for your straight forward replies. They have indeed been a great help with choosing the appropriate steps to take for a nursing career in Australia. I'm sure a lot of readers in this forum and myself share the same sentiment that you are indeed a blessing to us all.
I think the best choice for me so far would be to take the April intake of CON as it is the soonest but most feasible date by which I would have finished all the requirements.
Thank you so much everyone for all the tips and advice and and more would be very much welcome.
