Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
@ glitzdelight, either Victoria or NSW:nurse:
why Adelaide??? do you have relatives there???:):):)
I also consider Victoria.
Uhmn, Im not sure why I chose Adelaide. Im not thinking of it that much because Im still bothered with the requirements of APHRA. I dont have any relatives outside Philippines. So Im really starting from scratch. How about you?
Hi Fellows, finally my wait is over. Today I received my post mail from AHPRA dated 4 Jan. 2011 for my eligibility to the College of Nursing in NSW :) Been waiting for about 9 months for this. Just to share with the rest, below is my time frame:
Last Week April - submitted docs to NSW-NMB
July 1 - got stucked with the transition of the boards
September - started sending emails and making phone calls to AHPRA for follow-up
Last week of October - received email for A Nurse Professional Officer asking me for additional documents to match the new requirements of AHPRA ex. CV, New Application Form, additional supporting docs if I have (in my case since i was doing volunteer work while waiting so I just included that)
November 12 - sent the documents via DHL
December 17 - sent email to my case officer for follow up (never got any reply, sent her about 3 mails in total)
January 26, 2011 - finally got my eligibility letter dated January 4.
Just abit more information about my situation (hoping that some may be confident):
1. I am a second courser.
2. I did it ON MY OWN just by thorough reading of Parts I and II of this thread, reading the AHPRA website, reading DIAC website. Most of the information was really because of this thread actually.
3. When I first applied I didn't have any experience at all. When I sent my next batch of documents I included a 5-month volunteer experience only in a secondary maternity hospital in our place. Because, while waiting for AHPRA I just decided to make use of my time to gather experience already.
4. I also applied to Murdoch University in Perth, Australia for the 1 year Nursing Conversion which did not require an eligibility letter from AHPRA. But after completion of the course you should still apply to AHPRA for your registration. I got Murdoch University's Admission last October 2010, so actually I already can enroll anytime, get a student visa and can defer it for another 1 year if I wish to.
5. My spouse also applied for skilled immigration with me as a dependent partner but I believe this is about 2-3 years waiting period.
6. So in total, I now have 3 routes/pathways to go to Australia.
I hope this post can be of help to you guys :) Goodluck to All.
hi! i've been lurking in this thread for almost a month now. Kudos to all the contributors! You're all heaven sent! This is my case, I've been a reg nurse here since 1999, worked at the hospital for 3 years as a Staff nurse and last 2003 I was given an opportunity to be a Clinical Instructor.
my question is, Am I eligible to take the BP and eventually apply for an Austalian license? I've read somewhere in AHPRA website that applicants must have at least 5 years of experience preceding their application. Technically, I only worked as a staff nurse for 3 years and as a CI for 7 years now.. TIA!
Regards to everyone!
over super your experience already... you can be a board member of the AHPRA... hehehhee... you;re okey.. pass
your papers.. good luck..
Hello there! I've changed my mind, thanks cioman94. I'm now convinced that I really have to declare my vermont license though it would take time, it's safer and better to do it the legal way. I've downloaded the form for verification of license, its just that I'm having concerns re how to pay the fee, honestly I don't have a credit card, just a debit card and I don't think they'll accept it... anyone please??? thanks so much.
read my original reply to you.... hehehe.. its written there "DEMAND DRAFT"... thats your form of payment, go to a bank and ask about this, its like a check, you will send it together with your verification request form.. peace..

good onya mate... cheers!
Thanks glitzdelight and cioman94 :)
Maybe I would take the Sept. intake at the College of Nursing, NSW. After reading the College of Nursing Website with all those immunization requirements, topics for reading and applying for a visa I guess I would need as much time as possible, anyway I'll be calling the college tomorrow to find out more. Anyone bound for the same? Lets exchange pms :)

Wow congrats! :yeah:That was a long wait. Now I'm really pressured to have all the requirements ready as soon as possible. I just hope that AHPRA will release eligibility letters faster. I'm just afraid my IELTS would expire when I'm still on the process.
I believe enrolling for a school is another hassle because of the immunization requirements.

Thanks :) Yea, hope you can get your eligibility soon because the school will also ask you again for your IELTS result. Mine is expiring this July that's why I need to submit my application form (which will also need me to attach a copy of my visa which entails another batch of requirements to include the financial resources thingy) to the school before July. Goodluck :)
