Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
Hi, I'am a registered nurse in the Philippines with 1 year experience as a NICU staff nurse. I took up the ARNTP ( Australian Registered Nurses Training Program ) at the University of South Australia it was a 6months program, after which i registered with the Nurses Board of South Australia and got my registration right away (meaning you just have to wait for an hour ) that fast. My other colleagues took their bridging course in Victoria at ETEA the program lasted for 3 months but some of them got an early exit they were able to finished it in 8 weeks. Last Month i had an interview with a local hospital and was hired as a Paediatric Nurse, Now i am just waiting for the approval of my nomination then i will start with the process of applying for my 457(business longstay visa). If you have any questions regarding bridging courses here in OZ please email me at i might be of help to my fellow Registered Nurses.
Hi. I would like to ask about your colleagues who did etea. What opportunity awaited them after graduating? Private hospital, small govt hospital, rural hospital, nursing home, etc?
When I will make it to the very long curtin conversion this July opportunities will be from rph, scgh, and other leading hospitals so I'm really weighing my options. Why was the registration bridging course of curtin no longer offered anyway..? Curtin is the most practical for me coz my family's here. Well I just can't have the best of both worlds *sigh*
thanks RNoz1 and silverdragon!I really appreciate your replies. Actually, when I talked to my friend yesterday and I felt anxious because we both don't know what to do.We used to apply at a consultancy but our student visas were turned down. Since then, he's got that impression that oz is not for us...whew! it's really a relief that you guys were sent by God to help us out even in the simplest of ways!
@silverdragon, may i ask how long it takes to get a working permit in the UK?
@Julia_heartilyMay I know why your application for student visa was denied before? Thanks
the consultancy said that there were flaws in the documents that I submitted.clearly, when they said they were "processing" it they weren't doing their job.as with my friend, they said that there were issues about his sponsor because his sponsor wasn't a relative of his.i did some research and found out that the certificate course wasn't actually required in order to enter a bridging program and that certificate courses are classified under applications which have the highest risk of being denied-which wasn't discussed by the consultancy.in addition, were really feeling bad about the refund because they said we would have to wait for 2 months or at least wait until they call.more than half of the money that we paid them is non-refundable and the reason as to why wasn't and isn't disclosed to us.
I was with the May 2009 intake, I applied directly to UNISA. Please visit their website for further information. Experience is an advantage when you seek employment after your registration but not a requirement. You just have to execute a statutory declaration why you have not had any registered nurse experienced. The costs was really high but think of it as an investment for your future and your family. It is also better to take the BG in Victoria as it will only take you 3 months or less.
@Rnoz1
How long does it take to apply at UNISA? When is the next intake for their ARNTP? About the statutory declaration, how is it done? Roughly, how much did it cost you? Sorry for the questions, guess you got me interested with how you were able to do it! Thanks in advance!
Sigh... Sorry to know what happened to both of your application. I suggest you take the BGC in Victoria ETEA tuition 10,600au ( the requirements are less stringent)you don't actually need a student visa if your course will last for 3 months and the education provider is not an ELICOS registered all you need is a business short stay visa, the requirements are less complicated than the student visa and the financial requirements are reasonable. Since the visa duration is only 3 months you need to extend it later on by applying for a visitors visa to be able to have enough time to look for employment. When you apply for the 456 or business short stay you have to make a cover letter requesting the DIMIA to wave the "NO FURTHER STAY "condition, so that when you apply for an extension through the visitors visa you can be granted on shore and you don't have to exit Australia within the 28 days period after your visa expires.

The State Nursing Boards require these documents from Registered Nurses coming from
Non-English speaking countries:
Please go over the checklist:
Document confirming your date of birth
A certified copy of your birth certificate should be provided as proof of date of birth. If you are unable to supply a birth certificate, please supply a certified copy of your passport.
Evidence of change of name
If the name on any of your documents is not the same as that on the birth certificate, you will need to supply a certified copy of one of the following as evidence of your change of name: marriage certificate, divorce papers or deed poll.
English proficiency – original or certified copy
See Section 2 for English language proficiency tests accepted for entry to ARNTP.
Certified copy of nursing graduation certificate, diploma or degree
Certified copy of initial registration
Transcript(s) of nursing education – original or certified copy
Your transcript or academic record must be obtained from the relevant educational institution. This record should contain information about your theoretical and clinical experience gained during the course. This transcript(s) must be signed and officially stamped by the relevant institution.
Should you be unable to obtain a transcript due to closure of the institution then you can apply to the nurse regulatory authority for a copy of the syllabus relevant to the period of nursing education.
Verification of current registration
Arrange for the nurse registration authority from your country of practice to send to the Nurses Board of Victoria.
Employment statements – original or certified copy
You should supply a statement from your most recent employer on their official letterhead giving dates of employment, your role (level), unit(s) you have been working and area of expertise (note that this employment verification letter must be dated within the last six months of submitting your application to this program).
Passport – certified copy
You should supply a certified copy of the page(s) of your current passport verifying your legal name and personal details.
Permanent Resident Status Candidates only – certified copy evidence of Visa
If you have gained Permanent Residency status in Australia, you should supply evidence of attaining your PR status – a certified copy of the page(s) in your current passport verifying your Permanent Residency Status visa.
Candidates who do not have PR status can disregard this item on the checklist.
I hope this would help.

No worries, If you are an RN in the Philippines please have your credentials assess with the NBV. UNISA will not offer the ARNTP
for 2010 since their accreditation to offer the program is under review by the NBSA.
