New grad bonuses?

Published

Hello everyone,

I am moving to St. Louis to be with my family and am looking at BJH, St. Luke's, and St. John's for potential employement. Has anyone ever heard of new grads getting sign on bonuses right out of school w/o licensure yet? Just wondering...here in LA bonuses are generally for experienced RN's not new grads. Thanks!:mortarboard:

I would contact nurse recruiters from each of the hospitals you are interested in. I'm pretty sure that BJH and St. Luke's offer bonuses, but I can't say for sure if they are for new grads or only experienced RNs. Good luck in your decision. Those three are really great hospitals!

Hey thanks for the heads up...will do.

Here's a little more info for you.....Barnes-Jewish is offering a $2000 bonus, and the SSM hospitals (St. Mary's, Cardinal Glennon, DePaul, etc.) are offering $5000. New grads ARE eligible.

You'll have to sign a contract with BJH to get the bonus (not sure how long). SSM has no contract, but you don't get the money until you reach certain times of employment.....and you get none of the money up front.

Sorry for the late reply. I hope you found what you were looking for. I work for the SSM system and their benefits are great. Their pay is competitive. Contact me if you'd like further information.

TWENTY thousand!?!?! Is that for NEW grads?!?! Wow....

My only concern about that would be that I took A&P I a couple of years ago with a gal who worked there as a unit secretary or something similar and she said it was a positively miserable place to work and that EVERYONE was unhappy there....lol...of course you always have to take that with a grain of salt and consider the source (I didn't know her well), but that could account for what sounds like 10X what the other sign-on bonuses I have read about for new grads in this area!!

I certainly agree. Why would a hospital need to entice new grads with a $20,000 sign-on bonus, especially when I haven't seen a single recruiter from Des Peres at my school.....hmmmm.

I don't recall seeing them at a recent job fair we had at the community college either.....SSM, Barnes, St. John's, St. Luke's, but no Des Peres.....sounds like it might be worth really checking further in to this...

Good luck and if it truly IS $20,000, come back and let us all know how you find the working environment!! :)

We have one recent grad who went to work at Des Peres and she loves! I am still looking as I am due to finally graduate this May :)
