New Grad: ACLS but not PALS

Published

I am a new grad looking for my first job. I have my BLS and ACLS but did not get PALS because I have no interesting in working in pediatrics. Now I think I should get PALS just for my resume. Thoughts?

I'm a new grad also and I think it would a good idea to get PALS. I do not have an interest in pediatrics either but I would like to work in the ED and I know it will be required in that department.

I wouldn't waste the money on getting PALS. If you aren't going to be applying to an ER and not going to use it, the certification will not make or break your resume.

Specializes in Emergency Room.

I just got an offer for a new grad position in the ER at the hospital I've worked at as a technician and PALS was a requirement so it might be beneficial for you.

Specializes in NICU, telemetry.

I wouldn't pay for it. Usually many hospitals will pay if it's a cert you need for the unit you'll be working in. Wait and see if you end up somewhere where you would potentially need PALS and see if it's required first.

When I was a new grad I only had BLS and ACLS. I didn't get my PALS after I was hired into the ED, and after being on the job for 45 days. Don't waste your time and money with PALS.
