New grad accepted peds offer

Published

Hi!!

I just accepted an offer on a pediatric medical unit. I am very excited! Any other new grads starting in peds soon?

Any words of wisdom or anything that will get me even more excited? Hehe, thanks!:D

I am a December 2008 ADN grad who was hired at a pediatric hospital in the ER. I was shocked, because the hospital has Magnet status, and I thought for sure they would toss my resume aside. I think I am the first one from my ADN program that has been hired at that hospital. Anyway, I don't have any great advice, but don't give up! It can happen!

I accepted a position in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Johns Hopkins!!! I'm so excited but really scared at the same time...yay for pediatric GN/RNs!!!!

Specializes in Quality Improvement / Informatics.

Congratulations on your job! :yeah:

Pediatrics is why I entered nursing school in the first place. We just finished our pediatric rotation, and our instructor was a disaster who got us kicked out of the hospital our final weekend. The good news is that even with all the stress and drama she brought to the rotation, I still LOVED being on the peds floor. So now I know I will soon be joining y'all in the ranks of pediatric nursing!

I'm joining this thread! I just accepted a position for a pedi med/surg floor! Mellojello, you have my dream job at my dream hospital. I hope to transfer there someday. Do you love it?

Hey SarahBeth--I start in March--but I will definately let you know how I like it :)

Specializes in Pediatric CVICU.

Hi everyone! I just graduated and have accepted a position in a Peds CVICU. I started yesterday and found out today that I passed boards. I am super excited but very nervous because there is still tons to learn. I wish you all the best as Peds nurses!:yeah:

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

Wow, great news. Welcome to the pressure cooker! Be ready for an intensely hectic orientation. One little bit of advice... never turn your back on a PICU patient. The second you do they're gonna pull some crazy stunt that will have you wishing you were anywhere but there! Let us know how it goes.

I graduate next month and start my peds job June 8th! I'm so excited! I can't wait to get started. I would also love any advice or words of wisdom!

Congratulations, Candiam! :yeah:

Where do you live and at what hospital will you be working? Will you be entering a new grad program/orientation?

Thank you! I will be living in Round Rock and commuting to Temple (Scott and White). I will have a 12 week orientation with a preceptor! I couldn't be more excited!!!

Specializes in Oncology.

Congratulations.

I started on a peds unit as a nurse tech 19 years ago. I'm still there (as an RN, of course).

I love the kids and their families. I do a lot of the oncology/chemotherapy and that seems to be my calling. I also work some in the clinic.

Good luck.
