It may actually be a bad idea to start in adult med/surg because then you will be competing against nurses with peds experience for a pedi position. I went into peds right after graduation and it was definetly the best decision. :-)
  2. Thank you! I will be living in Round Rock and commuting to Temple (Scott and White). I will have a 12 week orientation with a preceptor! I couldn't be more excited!!!
  3. I graduate next month and start my peds job June 8th! I'm so excited! I can't wait to get started. I would also love any advice or words of wisdom!
  4. I'm graduating next month and start my pedi job June 8th!!! I'm so excited! I got a part time job in pedi after I felt as though I had school under control. Maybe you could be a tech at the local children's hospital, or doctor's office? As far as classes, I asked nurse recruiters if PALS would better my chances of being hired and I was basically told no. They told me experience would help with that class and the hospital would pay for it. If you really want pedi get to know the nurse managers and other staff at the hospital you want to work at and never give up!
  5. Try Scott and White in Temple or Round Rock. I just got a GN position there in pedi and my friend has 3 interviews there next week!
  6. I just accepted a peds job as well and couldn't be more excited!!! I would also love some tips for peds and a good report sheet! I will def be purchasing peds made easy now!
  7. Hello everyone! I just accepted a position at Scott and White on the pedi floor! I am so excited!!! I'll be moving from Austin and I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any nice places to live? Some places to avoid? I'm thinking I'll move to Round Rock. Also does anyone have any tips for starting out at S&W pedi? Thanks!!!
  8. As far as I know Dell Children's is not affiliated with any Univ. Students from all over central Texas do clinicals there though. I graduate in May and I applied there and I've been told they are not hiring new grads. Scott and White in Temple also has a children's hospital
  9. I'm onsite and we wont know who our instructors are until next week. Should I be reading the book or only the syllabus notes? I did the Hurst review and I'm hoping it helps at least a little bit! Thank you so much for responding! Where are you working at? Have you taken the NCLEX yet?
  10. First of all...CONGRATS!!! I just finished level 3 and about to start level 4, I heard tons of students had a lot of trouble passing? I'm just wondering if you have any tips for next semester? I'm taking the HURST review in Jan and I'm hoping that will help. Any other suggestions? On another note..where are you going to work?

I transferred programs and it can be frustrating, but hang in there! Getting into nursing school is a long and sometimes annoting process but once your in it's worth it. You CAN do it! Although the road may seem long, just think of the outcome! Also I attend ACC and I know they have an online program and the people in it LOVE it. It has been really wonderful for the students with children! You would only have to drive in for clinicals and labs and I've known students who had clinicals close to SA and San Marcos. Whatever you do, don't give up!
  12. Haha..you can have your NICU and nursery!! I want med/surg peds at Dell Children's!
  13. Hello! I graduate in May with my RN and I really want to get a head start on my job search. Does anyone know how early you can apply online for an RN position with Seton? :)
  14. Where did you graduate from? I graduate in May and your situation is what I'm afraid of. I also wouldn't be happy on an adult med/surg floor. But anyway, I just finished my pedi clinical on a med/surg floor at Dell Children's and LOVED it!! That hospital is amazing! I heard the ER hired a ton of new grads last year and a bunch of RN's are about to go on maternity leave so you might try the ER. Let me know how everything goes bc that's where I want to work in May!
  15. I'll be 24 when I graduate and I believe I will be just as competent as anyone older then me. I've worked very hard to get where I am and just because your in your 20's doens't mean you party. It's been nice to not have the distractions older people have, it just makes it easier to focus on my studies. To me it doesn't matter what age you are when entering nursing but how passionate you are about it and how hard your willing to work. If you are an immature individual you probably wouldn't make it through nursing school anyway. Just my opinion!
