New Fiscal Year Decisions

Published

I just found out that options for new nurses has closed for FY11. The Army is no longer going to have the RN to BSN STRAP program. They are no longer going to accept new grads or 66H without a critical care identifier. I never realized in a million years that the Army would be over capacity for RNs.

Was told by my recruiter on Monday that the SI is open to Psych/Community health and very few slots for critical care. Everything else is closed and the next board will meet on Sept. 14th for 2010 fiscal year. My packet went up Thurs. said it would take about 2 weeks for me to hear something and they are no longer excepting slots for ADNs unless you have SI for 2010. Then they won't be taking them at all in 2011 unless you have a BSN. So if I don't make it in this year 2010 then I will have to wait until I finish my BSN next year to commission....

Keep me posted on when you hear back about your SI, please. My recruiter told me it would only take about two weeks to hear back too. That was 15 June.... As of Friday mine still showed "pending" in the data base. Im not too stressed if they tell me I have to finish my BSN first, I graduate in December. But it would be nice to have some answers.

I will let you know as soon as I find out. Yes! it would be nice to have some answers to the unknown. I'm just tired of all the run around I have been getting, but I guess it will pay off in the long run. If I have to wait to finish my BSN so be it but that won't be until Dec 2011...Oh well..:dzed:

Is the STRAP program different from the Nurse Candidate Program? I applied for active duty, not reserves. Would I have a good chance of being selected with fourteen years critical care experience, and the last four years in ER. I just turned in my completed packet, and I am very committed and dedicated to the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Daisy

candidate program is for current students.. strap deals with reserves.. just applying active duty you should be eligible for either loan repayment or lump sum bonus that you checked when submitting your packet.

freefalle,

What database are you able to see reference your SI? Or are you just talking to your recruiter?

Thanks,

I spoke to my recuriter last week, he stated my SI is still in pending status.

Hey!! sorry it has taken me so long to respond, but Yes I heard back maybe two weeks ago and I was told by my recruiter that I didn't qualify for my SI identifier. My packet is going to have to wait until Oct this year or until I graduate with my BSN in 2011. They didn't give me any specifics on exactly why it didn't qualify. Oh and by the way I haven't spoken to my recruiter since then. I hope you all are having better luck than I am. I haven't given up just have slowed down with the process. I will let them contact me when they are ready whenever that will be.:uhoh3::uhoh3:

Mine is pending as well. Has been for a while. My recruiter said they're either still working on it, or they forgot they were working on it, or they forgot to post the approval. She's expecting some results any day now.

Lunah, you'll be in! It's just a matter of when.

Hang tight!!!

I do not know any of you yet I have my fingers crossed for all of us!!! I hope that everyone here will end up achieving their ultimate goals! I'll have to look back to see exactly who said it, but I can't get it out of my head...It was stated that there are fewer and fewer of us on here and this board process is ultimately survival of the fittest...So I'm hoping that she was right, that the ones that are still on here will hopefully reap the rewards of ultimately being the ones to get selected! All of us that are on here are also still in contact with our recruiters, which as was stated, was a good sign too considering they're only going to put forth the efforts that will in the end give them credit towards their quota. So in 2 months when the Active boards convene I hope to start hearing about all of your successes!!! :yeah::up:

Oh, I'm doing okay -- I'm used to the hurry-up-and-wait! :D I have my full-time job and two part-time jobs to keep me occupied during my "free time," which will make the time go by faster. LOL. I didn't mean to end up with three jobs, I swear!

I think that was MBARN08 who said that. I hope she's right! I keep adding more junk to my resume in the meantime. Now I've signed up for an NRP course in October. I wonder if my recruiter is going to get tired of the resume revisions!! Ha ha ha!

I'm just waiting on my CPEN cert to show up in the mail in a few weeks (not to mention a copy of my BSN diploma!), and then I have to meet up with my fabulous recruiter and sign my DA 61. Then the packet gets to hang out until submission. Woo! Still very excited. Very very!
