Okay, all of you gyne experts-we know the obvious benefits of this pill, but what are the risks?

I have nursed and talked to a few patients here in the UK with a Mirena coil and they love the fact that their menses stop.

Silverdragon, is there a medication embedded or coated onto the IUD? I've not heard of it.

Do you have a break in the depo in 12 years? does it stop all the horrible stuff..you know..the monster woman who jumps from your mouth each time you speak, with the hugely inflated Throbbing boobs?:lol2:

I've been on Depo for 9 years, and think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread! No periods, no pms, no mood swings, no bloating or cramps. I have not taken any 'breaks", nor have I been advised to. By suppressing ovulation, I am hoping to reduce my risk of ovarian cancer, for which I have some risk factors.

Others report undesirable side effects, mainly weight gain and irregular spotting, but I've been lucky. One major concern is the loss of bone density for those of us approaching menopause. Ihave a bone density test every other year, and take 1500mg of Ca++ daily. If I show evidence of osteoporosis, my NP will take me off of Depo. That would be a sad day, indeed!

Jolie, have you seen others with weight gain through the depo? This would be my worry as I have already stopped smoking and gained a pound or ten!;)

No break in the 12 years and I love it. The only problem that I have is the cravings!!!!!!!!!! OMGoodness! The cravings 2 weeks before the depo is due is awful! No weight gain (i'm 117lbs), no hair loss, no depression, no pain, Just the cravings

It's not all great I put on nearly 2 stone on the injection over 9 months, stopped and it has taken another 9 to loose the weight. No other changes in lifestyle, diet, ex. it was the only thing I could attrib ute the weight gain to

Before the advent of oral contraceptives, there were many women who spent years of their lives pregnant and nursing. They often went for lengthy stretches without a period.

One of my daughters is a current example. Her kids are 10, 8, 5 and 3. She nursed each of them for about two years. Near as I can figure, that means two years out of eleven with a normal cycle. She has yet to explode.

Maybe it's different when using artificial means. I guess we'll find out.

Everything! Whatever I see on TV. One time I saw an Olive Garden commercial and I had never been to Olive garden in my life! But I could smell the The chicken alfredo thru the tv and I had to have it! Its mostly what I see or smell and I have to have it and sometimes I would crave it for a week straight. Tacos every day, lunch and dinner, everyday for a week. That is torture, but thats what happens with me

:lol2: Im sorry babe, I'm no laughing, but the image of GET ME A TACO NOW!!!........or YOU WILL BE SORRY!! is funny! :lol2:

So this just happens when the new depo is due does it? think I could cope with that..maybe! Did you never have this before..its only with the depo?

The Mirena IUD is a coated (hormonal) one.

I haven't had a period in almost two years thanks to it.
