New to Board and Deaconess

Hi everyone - I'm new here, but have read alot of messages on Deaconess. I originally heard about the program from my sister, who graduated from there years ago, but I certainly have gained alot of information from everyone here. Anyway, I just received my acceptance letter to start in May. I have some questions on support classes, etc that I would love to ask of current students. Has anyone taken the nutrition at another school? Also, I'm thinking about starting chemistry at ccconline March 1, but have a question about which class to actually take. I would also love to hear how exactly the clinicals work for those who have already started their clinicals.

I'm looking forward to getting the ball rolling!:)

I am a student at DCN. I did take nutrition at another institution and DCN had no problems with me taking it elsewhere. I would check with them first before you take any classes and get the ok that the courses would be accepted. The chem I can't help you with because I have not taken it yet. I will probably take it through http://www.weber.edu .

The clinicals are done locally. You will be required to perform X amount of clinical hours for each level.

It really is a neat program and one that I am glad to be a part of.

I took nutrition through Fontbonne, (Deaconess's affilitate school). The course and the instructor were great.

I am also a DCN student. I have a BS in Psychology and had taken Nutrition during the course of that degree. DCN accepted the transfer credit. I am also thinking about taking the CCC Online Chem starting March 1 (better hurry up and decide huh?) I have previous Chemistry credit also, but DCN would not accept that credit.

I will be very interested in hearing about your experience with Chem at CCConline. I was considering this school as well as http://www.weber.edu which is also approved by DNC for Chemistry.

hey-did you guys have to have a clinical place set up and a letter from the hospital stating that they would precept your clinicals before you were accepted? Any feedback would be nice and thanks. heather/

No, I did not, but I've been in the program for four semesters so things might have changed since I was accepted.

I'm pretty sure that this is the correct Chemistry. You might want to call to make sure (let me know what you find out). Most of the Chems are 5 credit hours, I think there may be one that's 4 but cost was comparable. I think taking the Chem now would be a good idea for you so that you don't have to try to take it while taking your clinical courses.

I don't have a clinical place as of yet. What they told me was that they would accept 20 students for May and they did not have to have a clinical place yet. Then in the fall they would take 20 with a clinical place already lined up and 20 without a clinical already lined up. That may have changed, but that's the info DCN gave me about a month ago.

I just spoke with Erin (enrollment advisor) at Deaconess last week concerning my application for the Fall 2004 program. She told me the same...that 1/2 of the students accepted for the Fall session must have their clinical arrangements in place before the Session starts. :uhoh21:

So I am going to get started right away in getting mine setup...that way I don't have to worry one way or the other. I just need direction from Deaconess on how to approach the hospitals.
