Anyone attend American University of Health Sciences in Long Beach, CA??? I just found the website today. Does the school look shady? Here is the link to the school site: http://www.auhs.edu/index.html I looked on the ca.gov site and did not find it listed as an accredited school which makes me weary about the program. I would contact said people for the school but they will obviously be promoting like heck beit I think its a trade school. Just wondered if anyone either attended or goes there now or atleast heard of the school.

I do not attend this school but I think I have seen this before. It is listed on the BRN approved baccalaureate program list: http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rnprograms.shtml#bsn I don't know anything more than that. It does seem like an expensive program though.

I know someone who goes there and she said it's like $80+ for tuition. It also is not regionally accredited.

DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL!!! i am currently a nursing student here and its not worth spending all your money. The administration are never considerate about their students. Each unit is $542.19 and each quarter you'll be taking about 15 units for 10 quarters. With the high amount of tuition you would think that they have good loan options, but they dont. The only company we utilize is sallie mae. We are not affiliated with any other loan companies like most other schools are. They don't have CCNE accreditation so basically our credits wont transfer. So if we ever decided to go for a masters program more than likely we wont get accepted. On top of all the tuition that we pay, we have to pay for other stuff like ATI. ATI is a supplemental tool that will supposedly help us with our NCLEX exams, but i dont feel it works. My class paid around $500 for it but i believe now they are charging about $1000. I would rather much spend my money on a kaplan review. Another thing about this school i dont like is that they change their rules all the time. They newly just implemented a policy that we must pass our exit exam with a 90% or we cannot graduate. 90% is a little extreme. There is a high turn over rate of faculty and staff which obviously means that their must be something wrong with administration. Also, a lot of good instructors have left because they are also fed up with the school. Although we may have good instructors now, they dont compare to the good ones that we had before. So after saying all this...let me see it again...DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL!!!

Hello,
I was supposed to start BSN program in AUHS this Spring ( March 29, 2010), but I changed my mind in the last minutes, and of course I lost $1,000 deposit for seat reserved. Are any of you in the same my situation that we're stuck to the policy of nonrefundable seat reserved deposit?
Thanks!

please don't say of course...we will get the money back. i was thinking about the money, and i will try to get it! that’s never make sense at all. who did you talk with about the money problem? we might have to hire lawyer about it because we did not even start the class!!! that is almost same as a thief. i don't want to lose my money. do you want to join to against the problem with me? seriously... we can vote or find some solutions together! $1,000 is not small money for the starving students.....and, i never saw other nursing schools like that. it is a nightmare.... we have to solve this problem. anyone have opinions on that??
Hi Ava82,
I'm thinking about the same thing too! We should take a legal action against this school. Could you send me your phone number to my email ([email protected]), so we can talk about that plan.
Thank you

Hey guys,
I was in the same situation with AUHS. I was completely accepted, paid $500 to reserve my seat and then decided, right before the orientation, it was not the school for me. This school felt a bit shady for me. The faculty was great and really nice, but just the whole process of getting in was strange and now I know why (this is just my opinion from personal experience). I applied for Spring 2010 to start on Mar.29. The problem and reason why I chose to resign my seat was the TOTAL cost of the school. I was told my tuition would be around 70k (because I already had a BS degree and a had some of the required courses done) I was fine with this, I was willing to pay more in order to start school faster. My problem with this place was that the school does not give students much assistance or options for student loans and everything seem to be done last minute so that you are locked in. I wish I knew about what they offered for student loans before hand, but instead I was given the information 1 week before classes start. Since I already hold a degree, I was not qualified for financial aid at AUHS and planned on using loans. If you get financial aid, maybe it's not as bad, but for those who need loans it is scary. I was only given around 8k for Stafford loans and the rest was to be from private loans. I was only given 4 options for this and would have had to go with Sallie Mae, which was the easiest to qualify for. The APR was 10%! This seem very ridiculous when you use the student loan calculator and see how much you are actually paying for your education after interest is added. It was a hard decision to make about resigning, but in my heart, I did not want to go to AUHS that much to be in debt for years to come. There are so many other options for nursing out there for me and I could not see myself not being able to save money and working just to pay a huge debt after graduation. My story actually has a happy ending. Luckily I applied at other schools and found out I was accepted to Long Beach City College. I'll be starting in the Fall! Stay away from AHUS unless you are desperate, have no other options and don't mind putting your dreams on hold while you work just to get out of debt.. For those who just started AUHS on March 29th, good luck.
