I agree that prenursing students should definitely look up their schools pass rate if available. That's what I did when trying to decide between schools as well as looking at other factors. I'll be going to NSC this Fall. I was concerned about the low pass rate, granted the program is brand new so I spoke with them about it as well as talked to students. They've made some big changes in how they prepare you for NCLEX and their last couple of classes are now up in the 80% + range so I feel like it's on the road to being a great program. If you are considering going to NSC or one of the new colleges where stats aren't even published yet like Touro, USN, or Apollo I would call them and talk to them.

I am thinking of trying to apply at NSC. Was it a very difficult process?

What will you be taking - the regular BSN program or the Accelerated BSN program?

I was accepted into the Fall 2007 Accelerated class. It's three semesters, Fall, Spring, and Summer then I graduate August 2008. I would recommend NSC. They're a state school so instate tuition is cheaper than the private schools and they seem to have finally worked out a bunch of the kinks in their program (they only just started it in 2004 I think). I actually think CCSN is the best school to go to (reputation wise, I hear their program is excellent). But it's two years and you get an Associates degree and I already have a BS and could go to NSC for one year and get a BSN. If you go to the NSC website it lists all the entrance requirements. I don't think its as hard to get into as UNLV or CCSN. There are 80 spots (40 accelerated and 40 regular) in FAll and 40 spots regular in Spring. I only had a 3.4 GPA but did really well on my TEAS test. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello, I contacted NSC today and was informed that the regular program is only two years. Did I understand that correctly? Also, did you get accepted the first semester that you applied or was there a wait list? To put it bluntly, I believe that my daughter only has about a 2.5 GPA, does she even stand a chance of getting in to NSC, do you have any insight on this? Because of this low GPA and not being able to recoup, she is considering Apollo, and just starting over - I know very expensive, may not be highly thought of by many, but when you are working with a low GPA, what is a girl to do? Any suggestions???

I originally wrote a big long reply and it got lost when I tried to post it! EEEKKK! Here's the down and dirty of what I wrote. First, the 2 years is for the nursing classes only. You are expected to be entering the program with a bunch of prereq's done that are equivalent to your first 2 years of college. Go to http://www.nsc.nevada.edu/Academics/Programs/Nursing/index.htm

click on Forms and you'll see the application for the Spring 08 class in pdf. That doc actually has a worksheet that helps you figure out your points and explains how they pick people, gpa, all of that. It's by a point system. I'm not in that program. I'm in their accelerated for people who already have a degree insomething else. I get done in one year. Good luck.

Thanks for that information. Somehow when I was on their website I didn't see the forms section wher it explains their admission criteria. She has a lot of those classes completed already, but based on reading the forms, you have to have a really high GPA to get to the 22 points required. Based on what she has and this is scoring at least an 80 on the TEAS test would still only put her at about 10 points. I wonder what is the lowest minimum that they accept? I also noticed for the RN-BSN program, it says do not even apply unless you have a 3.0. So what she can probably do is one of two things.

A. Start at NSC again, and kick butt and bring her GPA up, and hope for the best of getting in, because she could finish in about 6 semesters based on what she has.

B. Go to Apollo College, and no ands ifs about it get the RN with over a 3.0 and have several options and various schools to get the BSN.

i graduated from CCSN and passed boards 1st time w/ 75 questions. CCSn 's program is tried and true and they start training you for boards the 1st semester ( thats what i am told , i started the second semester) . i do hear good things about apollo. good luck to you all in school. you will all be signing RN after your name soon... and it's a great feeling..lol

medwynn, i'm interested in becoming a nurse and I was wondering would me being a paramedic improve my chances of getting into tmcc's nursing program? i know this is an old thread....but just incase someone comes into this thread and is interested in the csn pn program....i graduated in may 2010 and took my nclex......passed......out of a class of about 32 only one person failed....our instructors tests were harder than the nclex questions....so we were well prepared...
