I just started in the NICU and I really want to get a neonatal reference book. I know a lot of people have the Merenstein & Gardner's Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care book. So I was wondering what reference books other people used and what they recommend for a new nurse in the NICU.

How's that?
Those are listed in the order of use frequency. In other words, don't buy Smith's unless your unit doesn't already have one.

I have both of the main ones. They each have their pros and cons. The big difference for me is that one is outline format and the other is like a textbook with paragraphs.

I honestly feel that most nurses, after the first few weeks, don't bother with reading the books anymore. I mean, lets be real...they're boring. Ain't nobody got time for that.
I dunno, Mr B, Smith's is always kinda trippy thing...

Our new people get reading assignments as part of orientation. We use Core curriculum and Merstein. Now Smith's ... We call that the scary book! Lol
