NELRP is there a thread?

Published

Is there already a thread for RNs waiting to hear about awards from the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program?

When I search, I can only find previous year's threads.

I do know we're tier 1, but unsure of the score? We're the only level I trauma center in Southern Arizona so I know we get federal funding for Medicaid. We are also the only hospital to provide care for those on the native-american reservations in the area. How do I find out what our "score" is?

I believe you need to know your score to know what tier you are in. The HRSA website has a place you can enter your facility's address to get your score. Someone else will know the exact link. They probably already posted it, I haven't read all the pages yet. I wish you the best of luck. I know how important this award can be for us.

I have spent so much time reading about the 10 year public service loan forgiveness program, and call me dumb because I just don't understand it!! I have three different loan companies, all loans are Federal, non-commercial/private. Do any of the past years of work and public service count or am I suppose to put them all together first? I am confused to what the direct loan consolidation thing is. I did send an email to HRSA and they said we are allowed to consolidate as long as it is the only loans involved in this program (which they are).

To all who are still waiting to hear, we are all praying and crossing our fingers for you! They are behind in getting the emails out because they had so many applications this year, but don't give up yet!!!

So my understanding is that you don't have to have them all consolidated. You can just check with each lender to see if you can get the IBR plan and if it will be eligible for loan forgiveness. If so, you complete an application for the IBR with each lender. You include information about ALL your loans, even the ones serviced by other lenders. Then they each calculate what your total payment should be, using a federal formula, and divide it up among all your lenders. Each year you have to give them new info about your income and dependents, and they will calculate the amount you owe for that year. If you can afford the standard payment, and can pay your loans off in 10 years, than its not that big a deal. But with so many of us having ratios of 200%, I'm surprised that people are on 10 year plans. I'm on a 30 year plan, so 10 year forgiveness will be a blessing, espesially since i'm approaching 50, and would like to retire before I'm 80. I've been paying on loans for 20 yers already. I was almost finished until I went back for masters & doctorate. These loans grow like crazy while on in school deferrment. It's ridiculous.

Congrats to everyone getting good news, and keep the faith if your still waiting!!

Ok, I found the website where you can find out what your facility's score is! Our facility's score is "15" in the mental health category - so yes, we are a Tier 1.

For everybody's reference the website to look up what your facility's score is:

HRSA - Find Shortage Areas: HPSA & MUA/P by Address - Version 2.0

Also, information is on page 14 of this PDF file that shows how the funding preferences are given:

OK... so I was basically told over the phone today by the HelpDesk that my hospital is ineligible this year.

I am just going off of what it sounded like they were saying, but it was pretty clear that unless you are in a Primary Care Health Professional Shortage area as an RN (even at a Tier 1 facility) then you are not eligible.

Apparently if you are an RN and your facility is NOT in a Primary Care Health Professional Shortage Area:

then you are not eligible this year

If anyone knows any more information about this or can offer any input, please feel free!

I am an RN that has been awarded and I do NOT work at a Primary Care Health Shortage Facility according to HRSA webiste, it was when we started back in January but not now. I work in a In a Medically Underserved Area/Population and In a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area.

That being said I thinking whoever you talked to at the HelpDesk didnt know what they were talking about.

Still praying for signatures and emails today for everyone.

Call the center back and hopefully you will get a different person, from what I understand from the rules and information on the website, you qualify for the tier 1 and should be getting an email.

Thank you so much for the information! I have another 25 years on my loan payments and I am almost 50 feeling that I will never get to retire. I've paid so many payments over the past years and am shocked how much I still owe.
