NELRP 2010

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am going to apply for NELRP for 2010. I am getting married in June '10. I am wondering if when I apply, will they look at my debt to income ratio or that of me and my husbands combined income once we are married, since we are getting married in the middle of the application process. If anyone knows I would love to know. My debt to income ratio by my self is 268%, but much less with my fiances income added. Right now I live with my parents and am struggling to pay my loans.

Thanks,

Sarah

Iam sooooooooooooooooooooo happy for all of you that got approved....... Congrats:yeah::yeah::yeah:

I am hoping to apply for the NELRP 2011. I am currently working as a Nurse for Genesis Healthcare which has many Nursing Facilitis in Pa. SNF/LTC. I am hoping that I qualify for it next year working at this facility.:)

I was reviewing my application (I printed each page so I could review it just in case so computer glitch says I put something in error), and on the Qualifying Loan page under date entered was the date I submitted the application 2/24/2010, but I signed in on the NELRP site today and the date is different, it says 6/25/2010 ACS loans and 6/28/2010 Direct Loans.

Hopefully this is a good sign. Just waiting to here some good news

Also to get the details about ALL student loans/grant/etc go to National Student Loan Data System for Students

it will give your payment/deferment/forbearance status of all your federal student aid info.

lkmrn123, what does that mean exactly that your dates are different and on what? and did you happen to get an email yet?? I'm really nervous because when I started reading all the responses on this thread, it seems like EVERYONE THAT HAS GOTTEN ACCEPTANCE LETTERS has gotten some type of verification email first. I even called HRSA about that and they said that just because an email was sent out to some people doesn't mean they got an acceptance letter but it seems like a lot of the customer service reps over there say contradictory things...is there anyone out there reading this that has gotten an acceptance letter without having received an email? I sent out my application information the beginnning of February, I think it was like 2/4/2010 or something like that? This is more nerve-rackiing to me than taking the freaking NCLEX!!!!

lkmrn123, good catch! I never even thought to check that section. I logged onto the NELRP application just about daily to see if there was any sort of change to the status (even though it says they won't update you), and never thought to check that. Now looking at the loan section I see that several of my loans were changed from 3/12 to 5/20, perhaps to update the total balance on the loans? 5 out of 23 of my loans were updated to the 5/20 date. So this is definitely something you can check to see if your loans are being verified/processed.

arbrn, last year several people on the forums received an acceptance letter before they ever got any sort of communication from HRSA. Honestly the call reps at HRSA, while pleasant for the most part, should not be taking calls regarding NELRP. I gathered from my several phone calls that they have no way to access anything about NELRP and can only answer basic rudimentary questions regarding the program (and not even that so well depending on your rep). This definitely was more nerve-wracking than NCLEX! NCLEX was a breeze compared to this...

Bariq, unfortunately your chances for getting the NELRP working at a SNF are low, as SNFs are in the second tier of preference for selection, and as they state on the website, for the past 3 years in a row all applicants selected for NELRP were only in the first tier of preference. I'd advise that if this program is something crucial to you, you might want to take a look at DSHs in your area. However, check with your HR department to see if anyone has ever entered the NELRP program, as nursing homes are first preference, while SNFs are second preference (To be honest I didn't know there was much of a difference). Read the Application and Program Guidance on the website.

OBNurse1, aren't those taxes painful? :uhoh3: It is still a HUGE blessing regardless, don't get me wrong, but I've always wondered since this IS a government aid program, is there no way to make those payments tax-exempt?

gnovime,

what part are ya'll talking about that has changed on your application? what dates I mean? It's not the application submission date right? I'm confused...

Never mind...I see now what ya'll are talking about. My date has not changed. Also, I just relooked at the information I put and I work @ Tulane University Hopsital which I'm pretty sure is a DSH in New Orleans, LA and qualifies, but I put the wrong information in the box where it asked what kind of critical shortage facility I work in. I feel so stupid now that I will probably not get this assistance because of dumb errors, since it specifically says at the top of that page that "any errors WILL result in your application not receiving an accurate ranking and not being considered for funding". This is not good news for me...

arbrn, are you looking at the section that's under Application Kit -> Loan? The information under "Date Entered" will list the original dates you entered into the system (should be multiple entries depending on how many loans you have). For instance here is what it would look like:

Institution Name..Loan Amount...Phone............................Fax...................................Date Entered Loan Company.....$5,000............(800) 300-0000.............(877) 300-0000...............3/10/2010................ViewLoan Company.....$5,000............(800) 300-0000.............(877) 300-0000...............5/15/2010................View

What did you mark as the CSF type? Tulane is marked as a DSH on the list posted earlier. I can't imagine they would disqualify you over something as silly as that, although I know I was fretting every second thinking that I crossed a t wrong somewhere.

I looked at my loans under my status and most of my dates changed to May or June dates. So for those of you still waiting maybe that's another place to look. Also they pulled my credit report in May. Good luck guys!

Also I don't think its possible to get the loan without the verification email. The email contains the actual contract that you and HRSA sign and also your banking information... so I don't think you can get an award letter without those forms first.

I just checked the dates on my loan information on the HRSA website, and my dates have changed from March 2010 to 6/21/2010. I hope this is a good sign. I have 116% ratio, but I have not received any type of email or letter from them. I guess we'll see....

So, can any of you tell me what your credit scores have to be like for them to even think about accepting you for the process? We (husband and I) have had some "not-so-perfect-times" with our credit because of his line of work and getting laid off. Another friend of mine wanted to apply but she she just filed bankruptcy because her husband had been out of work for almost 2 years while she was in school. Thanks for any info...

I don't think that your credit score has anything to do with the application. I believe that the only reason that they check your credit report is to verify that your loans are listed and to also make sure that you don't have any defaulted loans/government debt.

I have not gotten any type of email, they have my correct email (I requested my password) and it came right to my in box, not spam. I am no tax expert (I do my own taxes on Turbo Tax) but it looks like section 7 of the above pdf addresses taxes and loan forgiveness.....................I welcome the extra taxes if I can get this debt forgiven..............NELRP folks if you are reading this Please pick me! I don't mind income taxes............ I wish I had to pay millions of dollars in taxes....... that would require me to have millions of dollars in income.............Looks like you can take a $2500 deduction if you pay an extra $2500 in interest. If all else fails the law just changed a few years ago if you make 120 payments (10 yrs) (total not in row) even income contingent you can get the balance of the loans forgiven if you work in certain sectors of health care............
