Hello Everyone,
I am going to apply for NELRP for 2010. I am getting married in June '10. I am wondering if when I apply, will they look at my debt to income ratio or that of me and my husbands combined income once we are married, since we are getting married in the middle of the application process. If anyone knows I would love to know. My debt to income ratio by my self is 268%, but much less with my fiances income added. Right now I live with my parents and am struggling to pay my loans.
Thanks,
Sarah
For the last 3 yrs I have worked at a qualifying DSH, and every year I get the "you were eligible, but not selected" letter in Oct. Just an FYI make COPIES OF EVERYTHING, loan information, application (just hit the print page when you look at each section) and have some one else (anal retentive type) look over it again and again, check and recheck before you hit the "submit" button.
Then if not selected and you did everything correct on your application, just put the same information (loan amounts will increase because of interest) and send the same promissory note info in for the next year. Keep your application altogether in a very handy place (I place in the bottom of my dresser) and just have all the same info again for the new application. About 7 yrs ago they used to not publish the DSH and I ASSUMED that a federal prison would qualify me, not so much, they update DSH all the time, they add more so keep checking back. If not selected just keep reapplying, believe me your will never pay enough to make a significant decrease in the loan amounts, unless you win Lotto.
lkmrn,
I am one of those anxiously awaiting a sign that I may be a recipient this year. I went to the HRSA website to review the status of my application and I can't find it. In other words, I can log in but haven't been able to navigate the site to see if any part of my application has changed, like you saw the dates changed under the qualifying loan page.
Before I panic that I can't access my application, can you tell me how to you to review your application? Do you have a link?
I printed out that confirmation receipt I received right after I submitted so I assume I just not finding the link.
Thanks in advance!

Have they changed??? Then they most likely have verified the loans with the servicer. This is the first year I have gone back to look if anything is different...... I have been trying to get the loans forgiven for years.... maybe this will be my time....
I all can say is just keep trying, I have... I moved to work in NC at a military hospital, (before they actually "published" what the heck a DSH was, worked there 3 yrs, then went to federal prison, no luck, now I'm at a REAL DSH but work though a managed care grant through the univeristy system, qualified the last 2 yrs but not selected. I guess it's just like lotto, if your number get picked. They only fund 10% of the applications, so chances are slim anyway..... good luck to you.... If nothing else they will be forgiven in 10 yrs if you work in public sector......
Unfortunately, if more lay offs continue the more people will loose health care, the more hospitals will be DSHs, the trend took years to get here and it will take many more for things to improve. I remember a time, early in my career that my health ins. premium was less than $6.00 per pay period (yes SIX DOLLARS), now with family coverage it is more than any car note I have had, even close to my first home mortgage payment. So something will have to give because even working people with "good jobs" are barely getting by.
The economy is not going to improve overnight and I believe that as far as nursing educational costs are concerned, there will have to be more options to help pay for the education that is MANDATED by law that we have to attain to take state boards. I know of people who just graduated in business and engineering that make TWICE what I make, and I have been an RN for over 25 yrs. They work for profit companies and I work in an inner city DSH where almost 30% of our patients don't have $ to pay, not even a co-pay.
But I always said if I wanted to be rich, I would not have chosen nursing. I have worked with prisoners, HIV/AIDS, active duty and civil service members, and now burn patients, it has been satisfying work, I know I make a positive contributions to our society, so if I die in debt so be it, at least then they will be forgiven:)

I don't think they consider "credit scores" they are just verifying you have the debt and who the loans are with....and the amounts due...
