Hello Everyone,
I am going to apply for NELRP for 2010. I am getting married in June '10. I am wondering if when I apply, will they look at my debt to income ratio or that of me and my husbands combined income once we are married, since we are getting married in the middle of the application process. If anyone knows I would love to know. My debt to income ratio by my self is 268%, but much less with my fiances income added. Right now I live with my parents and am struggling to pay my loans.
Thanks,
Sarah
My husband got his NELRP e-mail today and we faxed off the forms just as soon as we received them. Very excited but trying not to get too excited in case funds run out. But the fact we were notified in July I am hoping is a good sign. Now we just wait ! Reading through the 2009 posts makes it sound like there are so many ways we could be notified. I am hopign for an old fashion letter and soon. For the people who received their adward letters how long after you received the email did it take for you to get an award letter ?
My contract email was on May 28th and my award letter was dated July 14th.
Just in case anyone is curious and has multiple loans with varying interest rates, I called them up to see if you had to split payments evenly or you could focus payments to specific loans and they said yes, just as long as all payments are going to loans it doesn't matter how you split it. I'd definitely recommend breaking down the interest rates of your loans and sending the majority to the highest interest ones, that way you'll make the biggest impact.
I pulled my credit report and see that HRSP looked at my file back in late May, I hope and pray I am going to get this relief, my kids are now in college and I still have this debt. The economy is really getting me down and I need a miracle right now. I pray others who are in as great a need as me are also blessed with some good news soon. I am working extra jobs just to keep utilities paid, something had got to give with this economic situation or too many people will end up losing everything. It is so very sad that after over 25 yrs of very hard and dedicated work, so many like myself are faced with the possibility of losing everything, on top of all the years of hard studying to obtain so many advanced degrees.
Hope the nurses in the Gulf get some good news too:)
My husband and I are starting to get more and more discouraged everytime we read this blog because we haven't received any news yet, not even an email!! I'm officially stalking my mailman and obsessing over checking my email out of hopes that we get some shred of news!!! Has any other nurses out there reading these posts not heard anything and have a high percentage of loan debt??? Please say yes! And as to the previous blog, I live around the gulf coast as well and could desperately use some help for my family!!!
Till then, I'm still in hopes, but getting depressed...sigh
arbrn, one thing you might want to do to check if your application is being processed is to pull your credit report for any inquiries by them. Also, you could check with your HR department to find out if HRSA has contacted them to verify your employment status. Don't give up hope just yet, as it does seem they're doing this in stages this year as opposed to previous years. I hope you get contacted soon!
Database from HRSA that lists all DSH :) Good luck to all who applied and who will apply in the coming years:)
I have not heard anything as of yet, but I have to believe I will:) My debt/income ratio is 300%. I have worked for a DSH for over 2 yrs and have not had a raise since I started, I have never in 25 yrs of full time employment with various healthcare entities been denied a raise in this period of time, I also make less than I did 5 yrs ago, I took the cut in pay to work in the area of my degree. I am in research and I am paid though a grant and work at the DSH through the state university system. No state employee in TN has gotten a raise in 2 yrs. At least if I return to school, I can attend at no cost, too late now for the loans but I can get them deferred and maybe pay them back out of my Social Security

Thanks for the list, it's good to have on hand! Although looking at the list, as I'm in the Chicago area, several of those hospitals I would never think would qualify as a DSH? For instance Northwestern Memorial, which I've worked at, is in one of the wealthiest areas of Chicago and also deals primarily with insured and wealthy individuals. However, if this list is accurate for NELRP qualified hospitals, it's good to know that I'll have some good choices in case I feel the need to transfer.
WOOHOO I got my acceptance letter today!!! My dept to income ratio is 225% but they only are paying based on 175% (I guess not all of my loans qualified). The taxes hurt but I will take what I can get!! Good luck to everyone else still waiting. I know how painful it is this is my third year applying. Hang in there!
