Nelrp

Published

I am just curious as to what the max. dollar amount is that the NELRP will repay. I understand the 60% for 2 yr. committment and another 25% for third yr. but what is the max. dollar amount? I have looked at the website and I have found nothing about it except the percentage. Other places I have looked have stated up to $15,000 and up to $30,000. Are these two different programs? I also do not understand they have a TON of applicants but I am really curious about the program (private tuition is doing a number on me). Any info. would be greatly appreciated!!!

Nothing still here...................Kate:(

I am hoping and praying for each and every one of you to receive that letter especially during this fabulous recession. I won't be moving home for at least two years and hopefully the optional third year as well since after taxes (with the optional third year) not even 60% of my loans would be paid off, but I am definately not complaining because there is a light at the end of the tunnel now :) Well I must go get ready for work now :( They found the craziest of the psyche patients and admitted them all at once on my unit so its going to be a night filled with fighting and IM's over objection. Woohoo I love trying to be punched and spit at while giving an IM. Why oh why did I choose Psychiatry  Have a great weekend everyone!!!

how depressing~~ nothing here either

Am I the only one left who got the email and phone call verifying info and has not received the award letter?? I'm going insane, guys!! I couldn't sleep Friday night at all and I'm at work tonight and can barely function. I know we still have until Tuesday but I am going insane! Kate :heartbeat

Katie-I hear you, I am ridiculously nervous about this too. I didn't recieve a call, but I'm trying to stay positive because everyone who has been awarded it so far on this thread has a lower loan/income ratio than I do (and you do I think) by a lot. If they award it exactly how they say they do than you have nothing to worry about, so I'm trying not to stress too much but it is def. super hard. I keep thinking that maybe the factors they say they go by (DSH first funding and highest need) aren't the only factors that are really at play, but that seems crazy.

Congratulations to those that received an award letter!!!!! :)

To those that didn't receive an award letter yet and you think you have a higher debt to income ratio .... I would contact HRSA and make sure they received everything for your application. The first year I applied I didn't receive a letter ...... when I contacted them regarding this, they told me they NEVER even received my application. I was so mad ..... I spent a ton of time getting the application and all the other papers ready. So the next year that I applied I made sure I got a delivery confirmation from the post office ...... then that year I received the award letter.

If you don't receive an award this year you always have next year ....... I know it's disappointing, but hang in there!

Yea I just want this to be over. And yes we are higher than the others. I'm 224%. rain I did get delivery confirmation! I'm so paranoid I had to make sure they got it and they did. So I can only hope I am still in the running and get a letter Mon or Tues. Good luck everyone! Its almost Mon! Kate : ) .

They recieved my app. as well, I called to make sure. My ratio is 208%, so I can't really imagine that we wouldn't get it-and if we don't I really don't understand why. It does make me feel better that not everyone who got a letter last year got a phone call first. Did anyone on this thread not recieve an award last year that had a higher ratio than people who did recieve it?

One thing I did notice, and who knows if this means anything or not, but if you look on the HRSA website and see the 2007 and 2006 recipients by state, you will see that each of the 50 US states has at least one or two recipients represented.

So who knows, maybe they have to have so many recipients from each state, and we don't know if population has anything to do with it or not. Maybe they have some type of formula (such as # of nurses per 1,000 in population) or whatever.

You know how the govt is...

Along with the state distribution - we are competing against 4000+ others - I don't quite know how many are 1st funding preference, but my guess it it's quite a few... MN only received 2 of these awards last year, and they both went to public health nurses - in 2005, 2 awards again, 1 in a hospital, 1 in public health - 2005, all 3 awards were hospital nurses... so although I know I met 1st funding preference... I have no idea what else I'm competing against... I never counted on this repayment, but my years in school were made easier by the possibility that my loans 'could' get paid off... easier to justify the loans, I guess - but I can still keep my fingers crossed, keep my loans current so they don't default, and try again next year :) Good luck to those still waiting!
