Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

So...I am going into my last semester and it seems as though everyone's goal is to terrify me about the NCLEX. So what is the best to study with??? I am torn between studying for weeks and just taking the test and hoping for the best. Finally....I have heard a nasty rumor that there is fill-in and short answers....is that true????

Hi! Don't let people scare you about the NCLEX. Concentrate on your last semester. Keep in mind that according to the statistics close to 85% of people pass it on the first try. There are "alternate format" questions. There are fill in the blank, select all that apply, "hot spots" where you have to point on a picture what they are asking for, and I think there are questions where you have to put a list of things in order. I just took the NCLEX and I only got 3 select all that apply, the rest were multiple choice. Most if the test will be multiple choice. I did not start studying for the NCLEX in my last semester per se, but I did purchase some of the NCLEX review books and used the CDS that come with them to help me study for my exams at school. I used Saunders, and with that you can pick the content area. So if my exam was on Cardiac, I would do cardiac questions. So in a way you are studying for NCLEX too. Good luck.

Oh, wow, Alicia.....please concentrate on your last semester now! Believe me, there will be plenty of time to get anxiety-ridden about this dratted exam; don't distract yourself from studying what you need to do to GET to TAKE the exam :)

Once you've graduated, come on back and read through this board, and you'll see the exact same questions asked over and over and over: what do I study, what's the best guides, what's the best review courses, what's on the exam, what kind of questions, when should I take it....and on and on :)

Honestly, give it no thought for now. There's a whole LOTTA time several months from now!

I concur with everyon else. Focus on your last semester at school. There will be a lot of NCLEX talk, but without passing and graduating, the NCLEX will be pretty useless. There will be time to study for it as long as you give yourself enough time to study for it and not schedule it for say, a week after you graduate to where you're already fried from finals.

Enjoy this last semester as stressful as it may be!

Keep on studying, don't fret, you'll be fine! Although you may read posts from those who say how awful it is - remmeber they're balanced out by all those who pass 1st time!
