NEED HELP!! New Excelsior Student

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hello guys,

I have finally put my mind to it & decided to go thru excelsior. Its no other way for me to obtain my RN with 2 young children. I know I can do it but I guess I am just scared of the unknown. The bridge programs in Texas are practically nonexistent. :banghead:

I am just looking for any helpful info, tips, anything to help me along with excelsior. Also I will be under the new curriculum so any tips on the changes will be great.

So what you used to study, usual study time for your exams, any tips on how to pay for this thing (Ouch!), or just words of encouragement.

I look forward to your advice!

I took all the prereqs. before I started my LPN program because I originally planned on going into the RN program. The waiting list was unbelievable so I changed my plans and went the LPN route so I could start right away. So, long story short since it wasn't part of the LPN program they accepted all the courses and I actually took lifespan with my original bachelors degree and just made the cutoff with that one so I was pretty lucky.

I took those courses as part of the LPN program..so you mean to say that if those general ed courses are part of the LPN program they will not be credited for the ADN program and I have to take them again? In that case I will be writing about 20 exams to finish Excelsior ADN program...any thought....

Did you get your credits completely evaluated yet? Knowing that they didn't accept some of your classes leads me to believe you have, and if so, you should know exactly what classes you need -- it should be in your unofficial evaluation. But yes, generally, classes that didn't result in college credits might not transfer -- I've seen a few LPNs say that EC turned down some of their classes for that reason.

thanks for your input..I decided to get on with it. I hope and pray it will be worth it in the end. I've read good stories about excelsior graduates and I hope I could be like one of them some days.

Hey do you guys think that its do able to complete 2 Excelsior Nursing Exams per month?

I am soo ready for my RN, and I want to try to beat the show down between the TX BON and Excelsior.

Your opinions are greatly appreciated! :nurse:

I completely think it is doable. I did three weeks in between each but the first week was always kind of slacking and seond week I would start to really get into it and the third week was not stop studying with no breaks. For me I did all the concept tests in sequence so number 7 I did last and was the hardest for me to study because I could not concentrate. It was mostly about the history of nursing, just plain memorizing who the nursing founders were, when and how they contributed etc... All the other tests seemed like refreshers from LPN classes.

I did it that way. It takes a lot of studying, but it can be done. I got thru it in 4 months. You will get held up with the CPNE and waiting to take boards. Good luck, I wish you the best:)

Very good advise. Greatly appreciated.

I am hoping to be an EC student myself. I am from Minnesota and was accepted into the RN program at the local tech college, but researched getting my RN online. I am really hoping that This is the right way to go! I am married with a 6 year old and a 6 month old and feel that it will be much less hecktic if I go thru EC. I really hope so! I found this website and feel that everyone is so nice and it will be a good tool in helping me graduate thru EC.:yeah:

Have any ADN's gone to Excelsior for their BS or MS in nursing that didn't get their ADN from Excelsior? If so how does that all work? Any information will be appreciated.
