I have just been hired as a PCT at a hospital. I have been a CNA for 5 years but never in a hospital. We are required to remove IVs, I have never done this, any tips???
That's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!When you say alcohol gel you mean the gel we use to clean our hands?? How do you use it? Do you put on top of the tape or below as you are taking off?? THANK YOU for the tip!!![/quote']Yup, the hand sanitizer. I saw another nurse put it on top of the tape but I think it works better to peel off a little section and smear the gel underneath to break up the bond. Again, this can take longer than just ripping it off and impatient people will not tolerate waiting! But most people appreciate it. This will leave gel all over their skin so make sure you tape your gauze well.
I like holding good pressure for at least 30 seconds. I used to ask the patient to hold pressure themselves while I go over discharge instructions but I noticed most people would say "ok" and then as soon as I start going over paperwork they get distracted and stop holding pressure.
Soon this will be second nature to you! Good luck.
this might sound crazy.. YOUtube has taught me tons of Valuable information !!!!
Actually, it does sound crazy. Using YouTube to learn skills is a great way to learn to do things wrong. How do you know the video you're watching is what your facility wants you to do? I've seen things on YouTube that have made me absolutely cringe.
You might get someone fantastic showing you exactly what you should be doing. Or some idiot who knew how to download the video, doing something that'd get you written up/reprimanded/fired for doing the same thing at your job.

Okay, I'm very concerned when a " newly licensed" LPN (as you've stated on a previous thread) encourages anyone to gain knowledge on skills that they will apply to patients from YouTube videos ... Am I reading this right? The poster is asking a serious question and you, a NURSE are directing her to YouTube??
