Need help with HESI

Nursing Students NCLEX

I didn't pass my first HESI and studied numerous hours and thousands of questions. I have the HESI book and CD and Saunders newest edition. Any suggestions?

I can relate to how you must be feeling.....I had a difficult time with the HESI exam as well. I bought and studied the HESI manual from cover to cover, and went through all the quizes on their CD. It took me 3 attempts to finally get above a 900 (my school's requirement). I took the Kaplan course before my 3rd attempt and went through their online tutorials and quizes. I think this is what made the difference for me. I scored above a 850 both the times that I took it before and being so close to 900, I think my problem was in learning how to take a test well. So I did a lot of quizes and kept the guidelines that I learned in Kaplan in mind. Everyone learns and tests differently....so I will suggest for you to focus on your weak areas and do a lot of quizes and questions and understand their rationales which is most important. GOOD LUCK TO YOU and know that its possible to beat the HESI even if it takes multiple attempts.

Don't feel bad about HESI, 1st time I took the test I scored 780 fortunately my college did not require us to pass with 900. I took so many sample NCLEX tests and I always scored in the 70's I was so worried about failing the NCLEX but in June I sat for the NCEX and I passed. I can't explain why I would do so bad on practice tests but pass NCLEX. I did study for 3 weeks everyday for at least 5 hours. I just kept doing test questions, the books I used were NCLEX for Dummies, Lippencott's, and reviewed the HESI book. I hope that this helps some and good luck, you can do it!!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'm really worried because my school requires 850 and if you fail 3 times, you are no longer in the nursing program. I am not worried about NCLEX yet because you get multiple chances from what I understand. It is the number of attempts with HESI that has me on edge. I will be out thousands of dollars if I don't pass.

I have taken the HESI 3 times. The 3rd time coming, I felt there was alot of pressure. Our school requires us to pass with 850 or above. The first 2 times of the HESI I scored a 699. The second time coming .. I felt that it was impossible to get a increase of 150 or higher. I studied the NCLEX book back and forth -- highlighted important terms, did the HESI CD, and also did HESI case studies which the school offered to us. Fortunately I passed on my 3rd attempt on the HESI with a 856. I believe it is just reading through the questions and knowing what they are asking for. Like people have said about the NCLEX ... you have already mastered the material in the 4 years of nursing school ... now just gotta do questions to familarize yourself with the questions/answers.

GOOD LUCK! I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!
