I am in a RN-BSN program and I am learning so much that I have found helpful in my practice as an RN. However, my biggest downfall is that I am a procrastinator and I get bored quickly and I lose track; I lose all the excitement that comes in the beginning when you start something. I want to finish. I want to be a nurse practitioner. Please someone help me stay on track. I don't have anyone that is cheering me on, that is why I came here :)

This confuses me... are you a student nurse or an RN already?
Are you saying that you are learning a lot of good stuff that applies to RN nursing practice but not to NP practice?
Personally, I found frustrating the studied avoidance of medical terminology when it comes to care planning. Hyponatremia? Dehydration? Fluid/electrolyte imbalance. COPD? Pneumonia? Pneumothorax? Altered breathing pattern. Impaired gas exchange. Also frustrating was the ad nauseum reinforcement of nursing care basics such as skin care, mobility, infection control, and psychsoc support. Important, yes! But not so hard to learn that it must be drilled into one's head relentlessly for at least two years. Especially when there is so much else to cover and learn as a student!
Well, those were some of my pet peeves!
Some parts of nursing school, you just have to endure. Jump through the hoop and move forward. Where you can, though, try to make the most of the opportunities provided to student nurses... to observe, to ask questions, to help with procedures, to start building a network, to take a leadership role (eg NSNA) etc. Student intern positions or part-time work in another unlicensed role (tech, assistant, unit clerk, etc) can also help give a lot more depth and context to what is often being covered so quickly and cursorily in school. Maybe you can find a volunteer opportunity that will bring you in greater contact with NPs to help you keep your goal in mind.
Keep on keeping on and keeping your eye on your goals!

Remind yourself why you want your degree and start studying. You can do it. If I have faith in you and I don't know you, you need faith in yourself. Believe in yourself and you will make it. So get to studying and post notes around the house to believe in yourself.

Hi,
Just set your mind to it!!! I myself went to a priv school at $32,000.00 per year. As you know I could not afford to fail this program, too much money. I just graduated from LVN-RN ADN program 3 weeks ago. I just took my RN boards, so I am waiting. Please what ever you do, stay focus. Ask yourself do I really want this. I was so stressed out with this program, it was fast paced. But I did it, this is my passion. Best too you, I hope you are not attending the same school I did.

make smaller goals for each week, like finishing a project, starting a project, sleeping in late because you are caught up on projects----------- that gives you little personal cheering sessions. Also, if you were not working towards a goal the time would pass anyway. At least YOU will have something to show for that time passing one of these days!

You can fulfill your dreams! We need nurse practitioners, and we'll need more as health care reforms take place. Good luck!
