Need Advice!

I have been in nursing school and will soon graduate, maybe. Over the summer vacation I was convicted of a misdemeanor, lowest degree. I am so in a state of anxiety now about what to do and wheter or not to tell the school. I am scared if I tell the Dean, she will have me expelled from the school and I will not graduate. If I choose to not tell, they will realize it in the end when I go to submit my liscensure application. I will have to check the box saying I have been convicted of a crime. If I do that they will wonder why I did not confront them earlier. What the heck to I do???

I am currenty doing community service and will be on probation for 6 mos.

I cannot seem to get any straight answers from BON. Each case is individual.

I am concerned that if you do not and they find out, they might keep you from graduating and keep you from reapplying to the program.

Now this just IMHO.

Now, as for the BON ..... you MUST inform them. They weigh these issues on an individual basis and review them collectively.

This must be your decision, however.

Good luck.

How do I inform the BON now? Do I wait until I send the app. in? Or do I tell them now? I don't know who to ask for, there is no specific person to call and discuss my situation with.

If I tell my Dean, what could happen? Will they kick me out? Either way I am screwed.

Yeah - probably should tell them. I'm almost afraid to ask, but it begs to be asked. What did you do?

Let me know how it works out!!!!!!!1

If I were u I would seek some legal advice from an attorney. That's what I did and it saved my butt big time. Because my attorney went about doing in a suttle manor and told them only what they needed to know. Not the whole story.

What kind of an attorney? An employment atty?

Was your situation like mine? Did you get to sit for the board?

Let me know what happens and your decision!!!!

No....I do not think you are.

You will tell the BON when you apply for licensure.

The school .... do they require full disclosure? This must be up to you on that one.

I just want you to know you MUST inform BON at the time for license.

I know this weighs heavily on you. I have asked another mod to help you on this as well.

I graduated nursing school this past May. I remember the last semester, we were required to do a background check form (I'm in Maryland) that became a requirement because of hospital clinicals. I guess since employees have to do background checks, even nursing students have to also. This is just a heads up. I would be completely honest with your school. I would rather tell them and have nothing happen, then have them find out while you are keeping it a secret. You don't have to tell them specifics, but I would at least let them know. I hope this helps!!

I try to go "to the Throne" and not the "Phone."

If prayer is a part of your Spiritual life, that would be my suggestion, and He will lead you.

However, the organization I work for values Honesty, and in your case, it's also a matter of wisdom, since some schools tend to be overly political.

Follow your gut instinct after praying about this, and, "do the right thing."

Make an appointment with your Dean, take time to review what you need to say, then just inform the Dean of this incident. I bet the Dean will be fair and discreet. Good luck and remember, a little prayer never hurts. ;)
