Ok, here it goes. I've taking A&P I and came out the class with a C. I've taken A&P II and withdrew because I wanted to come out of the class with an A to make up from the C in A&P I. I just gotten my final grade today and it's a B. I was just on the border line with an 89 before going into the final. The final counted 20% of my grade, meaning I needed to make an A or in order to move my grade to an 89.5. That would have automatically rounded me up to a 90 A. Well, I made a 83 on the final and that dropped my grade to a 87. That's my final grade. I just cried my heart out because, I attend a public technical college in Georgia and majority of the nursing deadline program is by Jan. to have everything taken and completed. I also attend a community college in georgia as well and currently taking microbiology and college algrebra. I'm so scared that that wouldn't be a competive grade, say for instance I make a B in micro. I have a B and C from A&P I and II. I was considering taking A&PI over to try to make a B this go around instead of taking A&P II over to make an A. The only thing is that I will not have any time to breathe taking A&P I along with micro, college Algebra, and psychology. I really don't know what to do. any advice. Please help! I need a little motivation right now. I have a family with a 2yr old daughter right now. I was planning on working in Oct. hoping I was coming out of A&PII with an A to save money for the year to help my fiance out with the bills while I'm in the nursing program for 18months starting fall of 09. Now that seems undoable!

It sounds like you might be taking a lot of classes at once - and meanwhile with your other responsibilities as a mother, etc., etc., you may not be getting enough time to really focus on the material. So if you want to improve your grades you probably want to cut back on the number of courses you take in a semester so that you have more study time. Your colleges probably have tutoring service - at my school this is even available online so if you decide to retake A&P I then having a tutor to help you improve your grade might be helpful.
I can relate to what you're saying. We all want to get into nursing school yesterday (and get it over with so we can get out there are start working) but the problem is that nursing school admissions don't work that way. Good grades will give you a competitive advantage but if you rush to complete requirements and then get passed over or waitlisted because of so-so grades then you didn't gain anything by rushing in the first place. In short take your time to get it right and it will probably be worth it.
Oh and don't give up. If nursing is what you want to do then you can do it. Maybe you'll end up starting a semester or two later than you originally planned or maybe you'll find a school where you can apply later in the spring of 09 and still be able to start in the fall of 09 but either way something will work out.
Thank you so much. I really needed that kind of encouragement. You are definitely right about taking your time and keeping your sanity at the same time. I'm definitely not going to give up. This is where I belong this is my calling.

oh no. dont give up! stay cool
anyway just try your best! i know right now it might seem like you may not get in right away but there is always going in a semester late.
i know how it feels wanting to get in now, i had the same problem.
i was doing prerequisites and the nursing school admissions (@ a CC) said that i would not be going into the program until 2010 because of a GPA being high enough, prerequisites and their good grades with them.
so dont give up.
maybe if you want, spread your classes out; having a family isnt easy while going to school. so to save you from any kind of stress, slow down. its going to be hard and if you think that the prerequisites are hard, wait until you start the actual program, its very stressful, time consuming, and draining. so i would start slow so you wont be overwhelmed.
i know exactly how you feel, and if you think your grades arent good enough, rather than take them over try to talk to your school counselor or nursing school admissions counselor to see if they will take your C. its worth a try. if so, then thats good and you have nothing to worry about, if not then at least you know what you will have to do.
so dont give up or be depressed. it will be well worth it in the end onc eyour in and done...
GOOD LUCK!

All I want to say, is DON'T GIVE UP! No one comes back in ten years and questions you about what grades you got in nursing school. You CAN do it. Shake off those blues. They don't do you any good! See yourself as a nurse. It will happen for you if you believe in yourself. Nursing school is very difficult, especially with young children, but I did it, at the age of 40! You can do it too! Praying for you.......And I think you did a great job in A&P. The real learning comes after you become a nurse.

i feel the same way i took A+P a while ago and only came out with a c- so i am now taking it over this semester again. i am still overwhelmed trying to study and get the stuff down. i am also a single mommy with two kids 6 and 3. so it's even harder trying to study and prioritize my time.
but i know i can do this i am only taking one other class this time so i can concentrate on the A+P. i am finding abnormal psych to be pretty easy so i don't have to study as much for it as i do the A+P.
my advice hang in there we all can do this no matter what :)

Never give up but do slow down. Some people can handle a full class load and manage a family and a job. Others can't. It sounds has if you are taking on to much for YOU to handle.
I think maybe if you take a one or two classes at a time this might help. Sure it may take more time, but you wont have to take classes over. Are you on a point scale for admission? If so a C is acceptable but a low # of pts (my CC--- A = 30---B=20---C=10) . I would retake A& P 1 and only take it or maybe with one more class thats it. Then The other two together. Work on breaks, spring, summer, fall, winter.
I understand how stressful it is and how fast one wants in, just do what you think is best for you. At my CC it does not hurt to apply, if you dont get accepted. (Hopefully you will) Then you can retake A&P and try again.
Thank you guys so much for all your help. The schools that I'm applying for is not on the point sytem but on the GPA of the following classes: A&PI and II, college Algebra, Microbilogy, English I, and Intro. to psy. I'm hoping that I make an A in micro. at least an Aor B in algebra, and an A in psyc. I've made a B in English. So if I come out with the grade, in those other classes, then my GPA should be at a 3.0 or 3.2. Does the nursing department look at what you made in science classes or do they look at all the classes you need to have taken by the deadline to determine your GPA?
