My best friend has a rather large (2-3 inch) lump on her rib cage underneath her left breast. It is oval shaped and feels soft and kind of squishy. It does not cause any pain, but due to the size (it's quite visible to the naked eye) and location, she is concerned. I have advised her to see her MD, although I think that it is a harmless cyst. It should probably be noted that she is quite large busted and often experiences rashes in this area from the friction of her bra. Any other ideas as to what this could be?

That's the *only* advice I would give :).

Needs to see her MD. No other way to know.

Sounds like a fatty lipoma. Easy to remove, probably a good idea because of the location. I had one on top of my shoulder that would become irritated from my bra strap and had it removed in my doc's office. They can grow back though.
