Need to accept LPN school position by Friday Jul 18th, what do I do??

I'd accept the LPN slot. If you're licensed and working as an LPN by 2009, you'll be able to earn decent income in the field of nursing while pursuing your BSN degree.

In addition, I'd still take the postal exam on the 22nd so that you won't be throwing all your eggs into one basket. Keep in mind that the post office does not guarantee you a job, even if you passed their exam with flying colors. My mother passed the postal exam last year, and she is still waiting for a job opening.

It sounds like you are very conflicted. Being a nurse takes a great deal of commitment. You have to want to do it so much from within that being anything else pales in comparison. If you were just conflicted about which program, that would be one thing, but if taking the postal exam is even an option when your've been accepted into nursing school, then you have to ask yourself how badly do you want to be a nurse. There are people who have waited three semesters to get into a nursing program. They would love to trade places with you right now.

Ultimately the decision is yours. If working weekends, long hours, cleaning up bodily fluids, etc. still seems ok to you because you don't care- you want to be a nurse no matter what, then you should go for it.

My philosophy is that if you get into a school, you shouldn't throw that opportunity away in hopes that something better might (or might not) come along.

I signed up for the postal exam months before I even applied for LPN school. As for cleaning up bodily fluids and working weekends.....I'm a CNA now:D

If I don't take the LPN route, will I spend the next 20 yrs wondering, what if?

I agree that the LPN program sounds like a good idea for you. You can always add your BSN or MSN while working as a LPN if you find that you enjoy it. Since you are a CNA now I would think that you have a good idea about what nursing is and your comfort level with it.

I had no clue if nursing would be my cup of tea so that is the reason I started with my LPN. I figured I could get through a year of anything, lol.

It sure sounds like you would wonder what-if so I'd go for it. The truth is if you get into it and change your mind you can always withdraw. Good luck.

Wow Tony, you have a lot of things floating in your head LOL, confusion, and I was the same way about 10 years ago, I opted to get a Bachelors degree (which I did) instead of nursing...but I'm kicking myself now because I should have done nursing back then, it was my passion then and it never left me....I decided to do the VN route for several reasons, 1. I didn't want to waste anymore time 2. My GPA wasn't great in sciences because I had to retake all my prerequisites and they take points off your science GPA for repeats even if you passed them 1st time around like I did...I'm a CNA right now, and I know I don't want to be a CNA forever, that's why I'm in nursing school....If I were you, honestly I'd take it!!!!...You will kick yourself later on...You were set to do it 18 years ago, and passed it by, and you've been given a 2nd chance to take it again, and I'd take it...Good Luck!

I could not agree with you more LatinaVNStudentRN2be I am kicking myself right now because I also got an acceptance letter to an LVN Program at my community college for this August 25th!!!! I had to go to my college and tell them I could not do it. So I had to reapply for the LVN Program and the whole time I was there I wanted to cry:cry: but I had no choice because I could not get financial aid because I am getting aid for University of Phoenix and I was told I cannot get aid at two different schools so I would have to drop University of Phoenix which would be dumb beccause I am 3 classes from my Associates Arts Health Administration Degree so I tried the private loan route and I did not qualify--how embrassing!!!!-- and no one else would co-sign for me and I still had to get all my shots so with all that I had to make the hard choice of not accepting the seat they had for me:scrying:!!!! Part of this is my fault because I never thought that I would get in so I did not prepare like I should have and I was in such a rush to get into to school that the first school to accept me University of Phoenix I accepted and I could kick my own a** right now for that because if I had researched schools more I could have gone to a vocational school and became a Medical Assistant but no it's too late and I feel like the worlds biggest dumb a**!!!! :banghead: :uhoh21:!!!! Plus the University of Phoenix offers career services but no internship or externship so I have no experince in the field that I am getting my degree in so finding a job will be so FUN!!!!LOL!!!! but my community college is offering their CNA Program and I am going for that so I can get some experience in the medical field and get an idea of what nursing is like. I just feel like every time I get close to nursing I hit a road block and it is so frustrating and depressing and not to mention that every time I look at my accetpance letter I want to cry:scrying: :cry: but I am not giving up!!!! I am so sorry about the my long post I just needed to vent and get this stuff off my chest!!!!

You can get your AS in Health Care Services at ANY college or university....You're 3 classes away? If I were you....I'd drop University of Phoenix and go for the VN program so you can qualify for financial aid....I know I had financial aid problems to, but I overcame that obstacle, and like you NOBODY was willing to co-sign for me....But there are private loans out there that will help you with financial aid and I went that route...Find out which classes you're missing from University of Phoenix and do those classes at the community college AFTER your VN program is through....Take it Tony, I'm telling you take it!!!!!.....Those classes will still be there once you're finished, but the nursing program is like a rare GEM, you never know when you're going to find another one....That's what I would do....I ended up dropping microbiology (my last prerequisite) so I could do the VN program....I'm so glad I did because I'm halfway through the program and I'm almost a nurse graduate....AND the microbiology class will be there once I graduate, and I'm planning on taking it once I'm finished....we're talking within weeks!....If I were you, I'd go for the VN program....I hope you sort things out and find the right path soon....Good Luck and let me know how you're doing!

Hell, I'd finish the History degree, use the leftover GI bill to top it up a teachers credentials and sub in high schools.

Thanks so much I really appreciate but unforutnately it's too late to accept the seat because I already talk to the health sciences coordinator and told her I could not accept the seat but I did reapply to the LVN Program and I was told yesterday that I would be put on the LVN wait list and I am going to apply to the CNA Program on October 6th classes start in intersession which is in January!!!! I'm sorry I got the names/posts mixed up LOL...anyhow good luck and I hope you can get in sometime soon...I know it's hard when you have no support period.....Just keep trying, and try the vocational schools because I'm going through one right now and sure it's a lot of money, but in the end I WILL BE A NURSE!!!!....Don't give up your dream of being a nurse, do whatever it takes to be that nurse and in the end people will see how hard you've worked to get there....My family doesn't see it right now and they surely don't understand, but my mom is starting to slowly realize the obstacles I've had....so it will take time....Anyway, good luck in your CNA class...look at it as a stepping stone towards your dream...Once you're finished with CNA then you can get a job (even if it's part time) as a CNA so you can see what your nurses are doing and then you can strive harder to get to that point....If you have any questions regarding CNA stuff, or even VN stuff please send me a private message...I'd love to answer any questions you may have! :wink2:
