  1. Here is a link for requirements, including application dates. http://www.lonestar.edu/nursing-requirements.htm Arlene
  2. Congratulations everyone! Houston CPR Training
  3. If you go to the AHA website, you can find classes in your area and those that fit your schedule. Make sure that you sign up for the BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers CPR Class, because there are other CPR Classes not meant for Healthcare Providers. If you have questions about the CPR classes, contact me at Houston CPR Training
  4. Good luck everyone. Hope you get your acceptance results soon! It is a great program. Houston CPR Training
  5. Good luck to all of those applying to the Lonestar Cy-fair Nursing Program. It is a great program! Houston CPR Training
  6. Here is the link for the HESI and application deadlines for the different Lonestar campuses. Application Deadlines Houston CPR Training
  7. Nursing school can be difficult, but stick with it. It is a very rewarding career. Houston CPR Training
  8. It's a good idea to apply to more than 1 or 2 schools because some of the schools will put greater emphasis on the HESI test while other schools put a greater emphasis on GPA. Houston CPR Training
  9. Contact Cy Fair College. They will recommend an instructor. Make sure that during the class you watch the AHA film, practice on adult, infant, and child manikins etc., and that you will receive an AHA card.
  10. I have found it helpful to breathe through your mouth.
  11. Hang in there. As you get more experience, your confidence will grow. It's a shame that one person can ruin a job. I think that it happens in all fields. When I've run accross people like that, I've realized that they needed to be "handled differently" than everybody else. Giving her the "stokes " she needs might help. "Thanks for showing me how to..... it's great that you are around to teach me.... I couldn't have ever___ without you being there, etc" Yes, it's annoying and unfair, but sometimes you have to give peple what they need in order to get what you need. Every department can have it's difficulties. Don't transfer out. There may be another eye-roller waiting there too.
  12. I find it's always better to try something and find out that you hate it than to wonder what if?
  13. It sounds like you are very conflicted. Being a nurse takes a great deal of commitment. You have to want to do it so much from within that being anything else pales in comparison. If you were just conflicted about which program, that would be one thing, but if taking the postal exam is even an option when your've been accepted into nursing school, then you have to ask yourself how badly do you want to be a nurse. There are people who have waited three semesters to get into a nursing program. They would love to trade places with you right now. Ultimately the decision is yours. If working weekends, long hours, cleaning up bodily fluids, etc. still seems ok to you because you don't care- you want to be a nurse no matter what, then you should go for it. My philosophy is that if you get into a school, you shouldn't throw that opportunity away in hopes that something better might (or might not) come along.
  14. The American Heart Association class is the basic life support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. It is good for two years. Do not confuse it with the Heartsaver/Cpr class because that is not for healthcare providers and it won't be accepted by your school. Although some schools accept Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer, hospitals don't, and you'd have to then take an AHA class in order to get a job in a hospital.
