Okay, I did a search for GOD and came up with 200 pages of 5492 threads. Perhaps what I am looking for was somewhere in there, but WOW! The closest I have come were these posts which clearly show than an abundance of people DO believe in God:

I am curious about the number of people who do NOT believe in a traditional Higher Power.
What brought me to this was a recent theological discussion with my Jewish girlfriend. We are basically on the same wavelength (so I suppose thats good for us), where she believes in the God who created everything but doesnt care about what happens in the world, only about the outcome, (sort of like a science experiment), and I believe only in the POSSIBILITY of such an entity but not in the context of any organized religion which I have come across thus far. (Satanism is the closest I have found to what I believe, though even that seems to not be all encompassing. I do not prescribe to any religion so please don't get hung up on a particular reference or lack of here and miss the point of my question.)
I DO BELIEVE RELIGION IS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN CIVILIZED SOCIETIES!!! I just have no faith in the whole omnipotent, omniscient, loving God thing to whom we should devote our lives, depriving ourselves of certain experiences that seem to be the very nature of our existence, spending time on our knees seeking guidance from and worshiping. I AM NOT CRITICIZING ANYONE FOR PRACTICING RELIGION!!!
My question is this: do you all feel it is necessary for a care provider to believe in and/or have faith in God or does it matter if he/she believes there might not be a second chance in "Heaven" and have only one FINITE life to live so therefore it is mandatory to ensure everyone gets the best possible chance to be happy and make our marks (so to speak) the only time around?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

It didn't just "happen", we evolved over millions and millions of years. From the "big bang" and the planet forming, from the primodial soup of goo which developed when the planet was still cooling, through the basic bacteria and single-cell beings, through to the great apes, to the seven stages of man evolving and eventually becoming (well most of us did! ) homo sapien.
Unfortunatley, the sceptic I am believes the science and evidence.

Agree with GoodQueenBess, started with chemical reactions millions of years ago. We are but a spec of dust in the universe. But who started the universe, who started the big bang, I can't answer that. There are still many mysteries, and it brings great comfort to some that there is a creator of it all that is involved in each and every life (or the lives of those who accept one savior of us all), but not for me.

Sorry, but that is just your G-d.
The rest of us get along just fine with/ or without ours and wouldn't change to yours for the world

No! If you really knew your Darwin you would know that we did not evolve FROM primates, primates and humans had a common ancestor way back when. THAT is why we have primates AND humans and why gorilla DNA is 99.9% identical to human DNA!

Agree. Couldn't have put it better myself. I also believe that neandethals also 'branched' off from homo erectus, but were all killed off by homo erectus. Skeletons have been found that are estimated at 5000 years old and are reckoned to be "early man".
We didn't evolve from primates, although some of the people I work with have yet to develop INTO primates.
BTW Paige, yes "your majesty" will do nicely.
I think what made me move on to my successful wishes, easily accomplished problems with solutions is SOMEONE out there. I could not think of any word to call him or her...except maybe HE is named GOD.... do I have a choice??? nope!! so..if you got some dark days , and you dont exactly know what to do....WHAT do you doooo??? well...me? I kneel...ask help in my inner self...whoever is in there..knock knock..please help...oops.!! There is someone out there. Why do I need to worry??? HEY GOD!! are you in the air?? HELPPP!!! and without my knowing it...suddenly the solutions come popping out...so..maybe there is SOMEONE...out there..2#*+@:roll
It's not a requirement to believe in a higher power when you are a nurse, but it definatly helps. I have been at the begining and end of the life cycle with people who have lived a full live and children who are just starting. Currently I work in a children's rehab facility and for me personally, it would be extremely difficult at times to deal with the stress and heartache of the job if it wasn't for a belief in a high power.

Belief in God is not a requirement for nursing,if it were we would have taken theology courses in nursing school and I know nurses who were unbelievers show more care, and behave more ethically than so called believers.
However, personally,my faith sustains me when everything at work seems against me,including the patients.
