Okay, I did a search for GOD and came up with 200 pages of 5492 threads. Perhaps what I am looking for was somewhere in there, but WOW! The closest I have come were these posts which clearly show than an abundance of people DO believe in God:

I am curious about the number of people who do NOT believe in a traditional Higher Power.
What brought me to this was a recent theological discussion with my Jewish girlfriend. We are basically on the same wavelength (so I suppose thats good for us), where she believes in the God who created everything but doesnt care about what happens in the world, only about the outcome, (sort of like a science experiment), and I believe only in the POSSIBILITY of such an entity but not in the context of any organized religion which I have come across thus far. (Satanism is the closest I have found to what I believe, though even that seems to not be all encompassing. I do not prescribe to any religion so please don't get hung up on a particular reference or lack of here and miss the point of my question.)
I DO BELIEVE RELIGION IS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN CIVILIZED SOCIETIES!!! I just have no faith in the whole omnipotent, omniscient, loving God thing to whom we should devote our lives, depriving ourselves of certain experiences that seem to be the very nature of our existence, spending time on our knees seeking guidance from and worshiping. I AM NOT CRITICIZING ANYONE FOR PRACTICING RELIGION!!!
My question is this: do you all feel it is necessary for a care provider to believe in and/or have faith in God or does it matter if he/she believes there might not be a second chance in "Heaven" and have only one FINITE life to live so therefore it is mandatory to ensure everyone gets the best possible chance to be happy and make our marks (so to speak) the only time around?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.
Gracious. Of course there is a God. In fact there is a living God who loves everyone beyond our imagining. Then we all have Jesus who is interested in every detail of our lives. The thought of a second chance in heaven. I don't think so. My thought is try living our heaven on earth and rest in Heaven.
Thank you God for my imperfect self who loves you not as much as I ought.

Sorry, I know "bloody fantastic" isn't exactly a great use of the English language, but I'm in the middle of a set of nights and my elequance in the use of English equates to that of a neandethal. Yes, the whale watching was a beautiful, fulfilling moment.
I think there is something wrong when we say "Necessary" in regards to belief in God.
This means we "have" to believe, which is wrong, because then it wouldnt be faith,it would be totalitarianism.
However, since we live in a democracy,we "May Believe"...we can choose to believe, believe in something absolute in all relativity,in something infinite in all the finiteness, and with that belief we can have certainty in all thats uncertain.
I wonder if I should have been a theologian?
God gives us all choices and everyone regardless of what your profession is entitled to your believe. But I do thank God above that if it had not been him on my side, I probably would have been crazy or dead with the cares of this life. But by his mercy and his grace. I would hope that if someone is dying and wanted prayer and a person did not believe that they would try to find someone that does believe if time does allowed. God does not force a person to believe in him but my personal opinion to each's own. I think about the certain rich man and a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table.
For all those that wish to continue to read..Luke 16:19-31. This is just my personal believe and I thank God that I am the loving person that I am today because it was a time that I did not believe when I was not saved and I thought I had it going on but I really did not. I am just going to continue to pray because we are living in the last and evil days. If you don't believe it just look around at all the evil and corrupt things that are going on. The air is even different. Man cannot explain why the weather is a certain way in certain times of the months.

Keep Praying and Holding on Because the Best Is Yet To Come!
I truly believe that.
I love everyone on this BB and May God continue to Bless and Keep His Eye and Hand Over Us All because I need It!!!!!!

My answer to your question is YES, you do have to believe in God to be a good nurse! To be a good anything... It is required in order to begin being a good (ie righteous) person. We don't have the ability to do it ourselves.
God's word clearly shows that mankind is sinful in nature... We are selfish, immoral, lacking in all ways that are good, but filled with sinful lusts and desires and all the things that are evil... Who can look at the lost world around us and argue the truth of that?
Life by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-25)
16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Does this mean that Christians are beyond sin, and that we are better than non-Christians... Certainly not!! It means that we recognize our weakness and our dependance on the one true and living God to make up where we fall short.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

obviously not, however it is necessary for ME to believe in and have faith in God.....that is what I choose. My faith in Jesus Christ as my savior and his protective hand over me is my personal choice.
or does it matter if he/she believes there might not be a second chance in "Heaven" and have only one FINITE life to live so therefore it is mandatory to ensure everyone gets the best possible chance to be happy and make our marks (so to speak) the only time around?
I only have one finite life to live ....as I am on this earth today......and I believe it is mandatory to ensure everyone gets the best possible chance to be happy and make our marks on this earth the only time (on earth as it is..as I am) around.

That's o.k. in America "bloody" isn't all that offensive. :)

I would hope too. That doesn't have anything to do with faith. It has to do with being a decent human being. I think that IS necessary to be a good nurse.
I believe that you can be spiritual without particularly being religious. This can be a very harsh and difficult world and I can't help but believe that everyone has a higher power that they believe in and that is going to get them trough the tough and even not so tough times. What ever that higher power my be for each individual. Somethings are just to difficult to do own your own.

Religious groups usually go by a set of rules. That sets them up to look at things, actions, laws, rules, etc. It also causes one to judge according to that individual's belief. Where
non-denominational Christians DO believe in the very existence of an Almighty God. In doing so, they actually are able to connect with Him through the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus made available to all when He, being sinless Himself, took all of our sins upon Himself, and gave His life as a sin-sacrifice, freeing all of us who choose to do so, accept Him as our Savior. It is then when we are given grace, and are enabled to communicate with Him. Another point: After we do our part, we are then justified, meaning, when He looks at us, He only sees purity.
And since He loves us all equally, and is no respector of persons, well, then He in the only One qualified to judge us.
Having made this statement, our entire denomination was granted grace by our all-merciful God in 1993, after the founder of our organized, fundamentalist cult died.
And personally, I can tell you from personal experience, that it has been one absolutely wonderful ride since then. I have been given that one-on-one connection with Him, as many others have. And in so doing that, I have been empowered to write some awesome poems, a praise and worship song, and even my autobiography titled, "The Molded Lump of Clay." I have also had an out-of-body experience, have heard that, "still, small voice," have had many miracles performed, and I wouldn't change any of it.
I love the awesome ride I'm on! .
I hope this answers your question satisfactorily.
