2nd career nurse advice

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello,

I have a non-nursing BA (anthropology)from UC Santa Cruz, class of 2000. I was premed there and did all requirements.

I am a full-time mom of two kids; one is almost 4 and in school all day and the other is 7 months.

I have taught yoga to 80-100 year olds in retirement homes as well as baby and me and prenatal classes. I am looking to understand the lay of the land of ONLINE nursing school.

I'm very interested in postpartum, lactation, etc. I'm also interested in the NP path. Looking to get some guidance about how to approach this. I live in Los Angeles.

Associates degree > RN?

Direct Entry MSN?

Lactation?

Thank you for any advice!

Thank you all so much! I think it seems that I need to find an accelerated BSN ONLINE program. Does anyone have any specific school suggestions?

OP- There are no 100% online pre-licensure nursing programs. They don't exist. I think you are perhaps confusing RN-to-BSN programs (which often ARE 100% online).

I would check University of Phoenix or Kaplan University. I also think Chamberlaine. I don't know if Excelsior is still around or not. You could not do clinical's on-line

There are no online courses to become an RN. Clinicals and labs are hands on.

Ok so what would you advise then?

Look at schools in your area. Call them. Find out how much prerequisite work they will take from your previous degree, and what else you need to do in order to qualify for entry. The usual stuff you would do to get into any college.

this is correct!

The he closest you can get to an Online Prelicensure BSN is with a program like , where the "class work" can be done online but you would still need to go to clinical a at a local hospital or campus
