NCTC ADN Fall 2014

Published

I just wondering if there are others out there applying this May for the Fall 2014 class. I just found out I have everything to apply at NCTC but with a B in A&P I I only have 10 points and I'm not sure if I will make the cut. Anyone else?

They said tomorrow evening

I got an 88 overall. I'm so glad it's over. I honestly wanted to cry when I walked out of the room. I bombed the writing section of all things! I wish I would have studied it more. My breakdown was reading 95; math 86; writing 81; science 90. I got a low 90 something on the critical thinking 91 or 92, I think. I wish we could get more info. I'm curious about the critical thinking stuff. It sounds like we had a strong group this time! I'm gonna worry until I see that cut off number tomorrow.

For those studying....The science was all over the place, defiantly physiology over anatomy. Know digestive, cardiovascular, the brain, immune, sensory, and respiratory are some of the sections I remember. The questions are specific and random. You either know it or you don't. The writing, obviously I wasn't too prepared for this section--questions were like where could this sentence be inserted or after which sentence could this paragraph be added or which sentence/word is unnecessary or repetitive...which sentence has a grammatical/punctuation error. Reading, I barely remember this section! Questions like main idea of passage/paragraph, which sentence is an opinion, what is meant by this word/expression as it's used and which is the better summary of the passage followed by an outline style summary of the paragraphs. Math wasn't too bad but I usually score much better than I did though...know how to add, multiple, divide, subtract fractions and decimals, know decimal to fraction to percent conversations, know the order of operations and ratio/proportions. There were a few word problems but the most important thing is just to know how to set the problem up for what they are asking. It really wasn't bad.

Good luck to everyone, I have my fingers crossed!

That's great! I've never heard of anyone getting scores in the high 80s. I felt good about my 79. My friend got an 80 and another a 70. Now I'm not so sure......

Are you both going for generic or transition?

I'm doing generic. I think the 79 is excellent. I tried to find some people's scores from years past but no one had posted anything specific that I could find. However, if the cutoff was 74% last fall for the generic program, I doubt it shoots up a great deal higher. I would think a few points at the most. I think they tested more people than last year but that could go either way too on the scores. Honestly, an 86 & 88 overall are some of the higher scores I've seen, I think someone last fall said they got a 'low A' but I didn't know if she meant on the overall or just the A&P portion since that was the topic of discussion. Either way, I think we all 3 did well. I'm going to stalk that website tomorrow!

Is everyone as happy as me that it's just OVER!?

I'm happy for you y'all.... I still have to test at 1pm tomorrow probably won't sleep much.... I am a transitioning. I will post as soon as I'm done if all goes well.

Also do you guys remember how many people were in your testing group because there were four groups

You will do fine. Just relax! I don't think I have slept in 2 days at least! I kept thinking of things I wanted to look up or go over! haha, but that's what I always do before important exams. I honestly cannot remember how many were in my group. Maybe around 20? I think TWishes & I tested in the same group (1pm today). TWishes, did you notice how many people were waiting out there? They tested in two rooms.

Just read the questions carefully and take your time. Reason out every choice to eliminate even the ones you think are not the answer on the first quick read. (does that even make sense? I'm kinda on brain-fry!)

Specializes in IMCU, Oncology.

Shine_On, I am not sure how many there were. A woman who sat next to me as we were waiting counted about 20 sitting in the hallway. I was so nervous, I barely paid attention to anything but keeping myself as calm and focused as possible!

I had a couple of bad dreams before the exam about getting in there and knowing nothing at all! There were some definite things I was really unsure about, but overall I think it was a basic exam.

It is tough because you don't know exactly what to expect, but once you are done you will feel so relieved! :-) Sleep is the most important thing you can do for yourself tonight. I got up at my leisure today, since I didn't test until 1pm, ate a good breakfast and did yoga to help calm myself!

Then I listened to calming music on the way to the test and ate a healthy snack right before hand. I was still nervous as could be, but got through it!

I think my brain is fried too!!! Time to finally stop studying for a while!

Thanks! I haven't seen a cut off score above 74 in the past, and have seen as low as 70. I'm hopeful. I already had to register for microbiology hybrid. They meet Thursday afternoons. Going to have my hands full if I make it! Does anyone know if they are willing to be flexible about what days we do clinicals? Obviously I have a class Thursday so that won't work. Friday would be the only day I might be able to work at my current job. I'm full time there for now, but once school starts I won't be able to stay on.

Oh and I'm not sure on the number of people in my group either. We were in two computer labs. They weren't completely full though.

TWishes you did everything I should have! I love yoga but was too distracted to even think about it! I couldn't sleep so I finally got out of bed around 5:30/6:00 and started looking over my study notes. I did eat breakfast & eat lunch before I tested. I knew once my nerves calmed & I started the test I would be starving & I didn't want to be distracted by it. I like silence so I had no music on during my drive and I didn't take part in all the hallway discussions. Not to be rude to people, I just like be centered and quite before a test. I agree with everything you said, get some rest, keep yourself calm & just know that you can do it. Then go do your best.
