I take mine October 29th and just lost my job this past wed a week before my exam. I've been trying to study, but its been very difficult to do so since my confidence is now shot as this was my first RN position and I was only 4 weeks into orientation. Wish me luck as I can't reschedule it as my ATT expires Nov 5th.

only a few more days everyone!!! we can do this!!! good luck everyone and stay calm, cool, and collective :coollook: ...can't wait to be a registered nurse!!! :nurse:

Stay confident! You graduated an RN program; you know the fundamentals. Remember they are testing minimum competency so so long as you have the knowledge and can critically think, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Can I ask what happened at your job? It's tough out there for us new grads so I feel for you!

rich, lovedove, bettyboo is everyone ready???? I am, lets go slay the dragon!!! We will do this!!!! WE can do this!!!! Will post when I'm done,,,,8a MOnday!!! Bring it on!!!! Good Luck Everyone!!!!!:heartbeat

In a nutshell I was told I was too slow and that I just wasn't getting it.

I'm not going to let this prevent me from doing what I want to do as a nurse. Its a setback nothing more. I will pass......I will, I will, I will.

Friday, October 17, 2008My NCLEX-RN Experience Day 1: The day before the exam6:00 amI woke up to the noisy tune of my phone alarm and the first thing that popped in my mind is NCLEX. My bedroom looked like as if a hurricane has gone by. there's a big pile of reviewers that i read for weeks which i think must've been history, post-its which reminded me of must-know stuff, the reliable CDs that i practiced on everyday-just by looking at it made me feel like i could throw up, cup from the other night left with quarter full of chamomile tea, food morsels on the table, headphone, speakers, orange markers, notebooks, books and a billion more.6:30 amate a light breakfast and hit the shower7ampacked my things on the trolley and went over a checklist- plane ticket, hotel reservation, passport and ATT. check...check...if i forget a single thing, zilch! dead meat! i'm turning to an OC right now...7:30 amcalled a cab and finally set off to the airport8:30 amafter checking in i went to the departure area and searched for a secluded place where i can read my NCLEX 311 book and pharmacology notes. in my case it really pays off to cram to the last minute because i have a very poor memory. it makes me retain the things that i read and if it's still fresh it helps me to remember them the day after. I have the word CRAM written on my forehead. i was born with it.12:30 nnArrived late at the newly opened NAIA 3. the airport was big but most of the facilities are non-functional. headed directly to the arrival gate and went to queue in the waiting area for cabs. after 38 years, there my cab arrives. Manila is a big steel and concrete jungle, not to mention heavy traffic and thick smog which will literally suck out all of your energy. the sky that day told me that it's going to rain cats and dogs.1:30 pmstayed at the hotel lobby and went to the concierge. She said "Sir, you only paid $5 so it means may babayaran pa ho kayong 2,940". WTFWT? there must be something wrong with the reservation process. So i called my brother, woke him up in the middle of his good night's sleep and told him about the problem, talked with the hotel manager and haven't settled the dispute. finally i decided to pay again but my wallet's left with nothing but a few bucks and a dysfunctional ATM card.2:00pmi rushed to the nearest bank on foot which is half kilometer away and withdrew some mullah. when i got outside of the bank it started to rain hard. i waited for 10 minutes but it poured twice as hard. OMG! this is not my lucky day..oooppsss. negative thoughts attract negative vibes so i said "this rain is a blessing and it will bring me luck", so i ran 50 meters towards the bus stop without a raincoat or even an umbrella, i was literally wet all over, i looked like i was thrown with a bucket of water.2:30pmchecked-in and took a bath.3pmthe rain stopped. i went to Trident Tower(testing center) to get familiar with the route and survey the place. my stomach was already growling in anger so i looked for a nearest fastfood, good thing there's a mcdonald's located just behind the building so i ate a single chicken meal as fast as i could. then, i headed to greenbelt chapel. i never prayed so hard in my life until that afternoon. on my way back dropped by 7 eleven to buy food.4:30pmwent back to my hotel room and started my final recap of my review. did i say i was born a crammer? way back in college i'm not the kind of student who get straight A's. I'm the one who sits on the back of the class and sleep during lectures. you heard me... that's why i cram because i stuff my brain with the things i'm left out with. i did page scanning, making mental pictures of pnemonics i made few days ago, going over my review hand-outs and self-talk materials.7:00pmwent outside to eat dinner at a nearby wendy's. again, i ordered a chicken meal, i must smell like chicken dungs by now.7:30pmresumed the final recap and made my way to break the record of the fastest reader on guiness.10:30pmmy eyes were drowsy and my head was spinning already. I surrendered and just kept anything NCLEX off my sight. took a warm bath and sipped a hot cup of chamomile tea to sedate me. before hitting the bed i watched t.v., read the day's paper and listened to music on my ipod.11:20pmzzz...zzz...zzz...Day 2: Exam Day5:45amthe telephone rang!!! it must be the wake up call from the hotel staff. i was unusually relaxed i felt easy that morning. the anxiety must've been flushed out by the tea i drank last night.6:30ammy dad called on the phone and checked if everything was ok on me. took a bath and went to eat breakfast. they say one should eat a light meal before any major exam to avoid stomach upset but i ate a heavy one. since the hotel offered a breakfast buffet so i ate a lot.7amwent back to my room and relaxed a bit.7:30set off and drop by mcdonald's to buy a cup of coffee for a caffeine fix.8:10i rode a cab heading to Trident tower. there must be some 40 wrecks anxiously waiting outside the building.8:30we went inside the lobby. it was darn hot inside. i was sweating too much, the two ladies beside me were smirking because i looked like i just came from a fun run. we went through checks and were required to show a valid i.d. and our ATT. the elevator ride to the 27th floor was very long. upon entering the center, final instructions on the test were given and they scanned my passport, ATT, took a photo and did the finger printing. then, i was required to leave all of my belongings on the locker.9amthere were many rooms inside. and on each room there are about 10 computers and one proctor. before entering, the proctor gave me an erasable board, ear plugs, checked my passport and fingerprint me again. she ushered me on cubicle #20. i sat on my chair and donned my ear plugs. Damn! all i can hear is my heartbeat getting faster and louder. i took the practice test first, this doesn't count against the actual scoring. when i finished it and clicked on next, question #1 appeared. WTFWT? the book said first questions are easy questions but i struggled and started on a wrong foot i think. i have no idea how to answer it and all i did is was use common sense. i was hoping like all of the other that my computer would shut off at 75 but it did not. it continued to throw me questions. so i said i'm ready to go 265 and it did! i answered the whole gamut of 265 questions. the exam was very unpredictable they ask you about a little bit of everything.2:15pmi finished the exam in 5 hours. i was convinced that i failed. i have not answered a single SATA and math calculations so i kinda freaked out. flew back to davao that evening with low spirits.5 agonizing days later....paid for the quick result and checked my pearson vue account it say Status:PASS. I can't explain how it felt to finally see those 4 sweet letters on the computer screen. I'm the happiest person on earth! Everything is well that ends well.
