Hey all!
I graduate nursing school May 6th and will be starting my internship June 19th. What is the earliest you guys have taken the NCLEX? I'd like to take it as soon as possible so I'm not having to worry about it during my internship. I've noticed that some people have waited for a month or two before taking it and I was wondering if that was from choice or if the test wasn't offered until then. THANK YOU

The test is offered almost on a daily basis, it depends on how quickly that your school gets your transcripts into the BON so that they can give you permission to be able to sit for the exam.
It is always much, much better to get the exam out of the way before you start your job. There will be too much studying for you to do, besides havign to prepare for the exam.

I'm taking it 3 days after graduation, May 30th. I figure I can continue to review Saunders until graduation, and then have it over with while things are fresh :). My RN orientation doesn't start until June 12th, and I like the idea of having a little time off where I don't have to fuss about NCLEX.
smilin gp,
How did you get your ATT so quickly?
I haven't though have applied for it, we were notified of which days it is offered at the local Pearsonvue, and assuming everything goes smoothly . . that'll be the day

Wow! Your state rocks (or your school) ! My school sends out the paperwork to the state board and then they review it and then notify pearsonview and then I get my ATT. Some schools don't send out the info for a few weeks after graduation. I thought that was how it was normally? If you can get your ATT 3 days after graduation, then that's pretty amazing.

Smilin_gp ... you can't make the appt. for a day/time with Pearson until you have your ATT. I'm guessing that your test date will be a bit longer than 3 days after your graduation.
Good luck to all of you soon-to-be new grads! :balloons:

I graduated May 11th, rec'd my ATT today, and scheduled for next Thursday, May 25th. So I will be taking the NCLEX exactly two weeks after graduation.
Good luck!!

Could you get a earlier date if you wanted? The reason I ask is the dean from my school hasn't even sent out our transcripts out yet....monday hopefully (we graduated May 6th). I move to texas on June 11th and start my internship on June 19th. I need to have my internship done prior to june 19th.I'm thinking if I get my ATT by the end of next week that gives me roughly 3 weeks before I start my job. Do you think Pearson will offer me a date within that period....I just don't know the whole process about getting a testing date and it makes me so nervous.
thank you,

Alex1, this depends entirely on when your state board of nursing receives your documents from your school, and how fast they are at processing them. To get an appt. w/Pearson you can check their website, find the testing center(s) in your area, and keep clicking through the menus to reserve a date. Or you can do it by phone.

In the case of my graduating class last year, it seemed to take approx. 2-3 weeks after our applications were sent to the state to get an ATT, and the next available dates with Pearson in my area (med-large urban area, 2 testing centers, many nursing programs) were generally 4-5 weeks after that.
I strongly encourage you to take NCLEX as soon as possible - the questions are geared towards "textbook nursing", not the think-on-your-feet critical thinking skills you'll be developing as you start working.
Good luck to you! :)

This also depends entirely on the state apparently. I already have my ATT, because in Oregon, the board allows schools to send a list of expected candidates for graduation after they have fulfilled school testing requirements (eg. HESI) and who are considered to be not at risk of failing a last term required course. A Oregon State BON representative had to come in and explain this to us, as it is confusing. If something does lead to a fail, the school immediately contacts the BON, and any ATT is null and void. Actual license cannot be issued until after graduation and state processing.
