NCLEX - RN 2018

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi there,

I graduated from an ADN program back in 2015. Just to give you a time line of my NCLEX Attempts:

LPN FAIL

LPN PASS

RN FAIL

RN FAIL

RN FAIL

RN FAIL

RN FAIL

RN - PENDING

The point of this post is to address my failures. All the attempts I made were just attempts. I never 'tried'. I had the mentality that if someone is bad at basketball, they will eventually make a basket if they keep shooting.

I kept 'shooting' and not 'practicing' - if that makes sense. Now don't get me wrong, I graduated nursing school with a 3.7 and I have very strong clinical skills. I was just too lazy to take the exam seriously. I almost gave up - but in Illinois you MUST past within 3 years of graduating or you must show 2 additional years of nursing school. I did not want to go down that route.

Today is February 3rd, 2018. I am reaching the end of my ropes and I took the NCLEX RN at 8am.

How did I study before? - Very inconsistent use of Kaplan. (This resource taught me strategy so I tried to pass using only strategy. That didn't work.

How did I study now? - From December 18th - February 3rd I used Mark Klimek and UWORLD.

I studied 6-12 hours per day EVERY SINGLE DAY UP UNTIL THIS MORNING. I completed all 2,000 UWORLD questions and read every single rational.

My UWORLD scores got better the more I utilized it. I started out averaging 50% on my exams. That slowly progressed to 60-68%. Every single exam I scored higher than the average. And my UWORLD Self assessment exams scored me at 'Very high chance of passing'. UWORLD Recommends a 65% average on QBANK. I finished with a 60%

My NCLEX today shut off at 75 questions with 20 SATA.

My thoughts? Well, I either completely bombed it or I did very well. Keep in mind, the RN exams I took in the past never shut off before 150 questions. I feel more confident. I also feel nervous. I am so drained from the amount of work I put.

I will find out Monday morning at 8AM. My friend told me to do the 'PVT' after I received the Email from Pearson. That is what I did about 2 hours after my exam. This is the message that I received.

"Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time."

I used my credit card with a different expiration date. I did do the PVT back when I first took NCLEX and it actually charged my card. This time it didn't.

Now I know NCLEX is graded twice and I know the PVT is not accurate by any means. I do not know what to think or feel. Just thought I would share my story.

I currently work as an LPN in an assisted living facility and go to school for health administration. Last time I took NCLEX was in 2016.

Thank you

Hey guys, I took my NCLEX RN yesterday, April 23rd 2018 ,and the computer shut off at 76 questions ,but then they had me do some "experimental questions" which they said wouldn't count against my test. I believe this were a new format kind of questions they are trying to introduce on the nclex exams. It took me an extra 25mins to complete those (they were 30 questions) I haven't done the PVT trick,I'll just wait on the official results.I studied and prayed ALOT and I took God with me to that testing center..lol Hoping for the best..Ps:I graduated from nursing school 5 years ago took NCLEX twice unsuccessful so I got frustrated, and started pursuing other things.I decided to take it again this year 2018 .

What did you use to study?

You're a special kind of inspiration to people like me who at one point felt the frustration of failure.

Hi! This is how I passed.

I shut the world out for 40 days - and studied every single day

The first week I did listened to the Mark Klimek lectures (learned more from these lectures than I did in nursing school) - I did not attend the class. Just the audios.

Once I finished that, I purchased UWORLD and this is how I utilized UWORLD:

Do 75 question blocks of RANDOMIZED questions - NOT by section

Do them in TIMED mode. NOT TUTOR.

Immediately after you see your results, review every single rational of the 75 questions you did even if it is right or wrong.

Look at the answer you picked and UNDERSTAND WHY YOU PICKED WHAT YOU PICKED and UNDERSTAND what the right answer is. This will correct any knowledge deficit.

You need to be scoring 55% or higher on your UWORLD exams and you will score higher and higher the more you do them

To do a 75 question test and quickly review rationals should take 3 hours. Do this every single day and do more if you are able to. No days off.

UWORLD is harder than NCLEX and you will learn so much just by looking over the rationals.

Also, if you are able to do the Mark Klimek course/audios do it. I learned so much from it. Stuff that I never understood before. And I would review it once per week while doing questions as a refresher. Do not give up. The goal is not to master everything. The goal is to master the stuff you do know.

Remember NCLEX tests for safety. So as you are answering questions, ask yourself am I picking the answer that is the safest. Do not panic if you see a question with a procedure or a med you never heard off. Often times you can figure out the answer by looking the the choices provided.

Don't fill your brain with tons of content. Know the concepts and that will help you answer many many questions. P.S. SATA questions get easier the more you do them.

Hi. Meassa... Congratulations that you passed. I emailed you. I need your help. Please inbox me.

Thank you,.

Kamal.

Hello .. how long did you study everyday ... and how many a days week. They say not to over do it.

Congrats!!!! Your post is inspiring and motivating! I applaud you! I hope I can pass too and feel that happiness and joy and relief.

I graduated in December 2015. I'm taking my first attempt at NCLEX on August 8. I've been using UWORLD and Lacharity.

I have less than 2 weeks left...I'm nervous and hopeful and disappointed at myself that I didn't take this test after I graduated..Complicated...but I'm super grateful and relieved that I get to take it real soon. I don't know..I just ended my period and that could be the hormones making me emotional and PMS-y.

Hi!

I studied 3-8 hours per day. I did 3 hours minimum uninterrupted sessions. every single day for 40 days. never had a day off, finished the NCLEX in 52 minutes. everyone is different but this is how i did it.

Thank you! and you can do this. no doubt. stay consistent and take it very seriously. study every day with no distractions and utilize UWORLD as much as possible. do UWORLD like you are doing nclex. 75 questions in timed mode to train your brain. then review them right after. all rationals. i actually had some repeat uworld questions on nclex! good luck.

Hey there! I have a few friends that are currently taking online courses. I'm not sure of the programs/schools they are using, but I can find out some details for you and post them tomorrow. (If I can reach them, they're quite busy), but I'll certainly try to get the details. Or feel free to message me so you're the first one who'll know all the learning materials supplied to them. Here's my email [email protected]

Hi, i took my NCLEX this morning and got 43 SATAs out of 75 questions!! I havent done the PVT as I am skeptical. I will wait a few days to check the BRN website.
