NCLEX-RN Exam on April 2011, need motivation?

Published

Hello Nursing World,

I finally decided to make an account after coming to this site almost everyday, for the past several weeks, to research nursing topics. It has helped me greatly and Thank you all for you contributions!

I recently graduated from an ADN program and I am soooo happy and grateful that I was actually able to complete it because it was the MOST challenging experience I have EVER gone through in my entire life. I have to admit, it has been extremely hard to get back to the studying for the NCLEX. It's like my brain rejects the information every time I try to pick up a book and do questions... my brain says: "oh, no not you again." hahaha.... ugh! :uhoh3: Never the less, I know I have to prepare for this beast which brings me to this post. I was thinking... Why not challenge some of you who plan on taking the NCLEX late? March/early April 2011? :yeah: What do you guys think? Maybe we can message each other here by the end of the day and share whether or not you met your daily goal. For example, I have 2 books (lacharity and Davis Q&A) and I plan on doing 100-150 questions a day until my test date. Even if I do 20-25 in increments throughout the day, the point is to do them daily. Then I will come here and share how my day went. That way we can motivate each other through this excruciating journey.

Whaddayasay huh?!?.... I plan on starting this Sunday... Let me know if any of you guys are interested, I would love to motivate and be motivated by you guys... We need to get together and tame this beast! Lets do this!!!!:lol2:

ei guys..i took my first exam last feb.17 and i didn't pass..now i'll have my 2nd take this june and i just wanted to tell you guys something..right now i'm still averaging 50-60 of my q's on exam cram, lacharity, lippincott,& prentice hall..(except for kaplan i'm getting a score of 60s,70s)..unlike last time, when i'm answering for the first time i just got 40s (just using the kaplan and saunders)..is this a sign that i'm improving even though i didn't answer the q's over and over again?..thanx...i'm studying like 6-7 hrs/day just answering, reading some contents and rationales..

Hey Chris! Definitely sounds like you are doing well with the Kaplan. I was averaging about the same for Lacharity and I didn't do the rest you mentioned. The most important thing is that you understand why you got your answers wrong/right. And if some of the questions are repeated from your previous study, it is a good indication if you are now getting them right. Keep at it, you are doing great!

thanks...since it's may1 today...i've committed to myself that i'll answer 700 qs per day (250 on exam cram, 200's on prentice hall & lippincott,[2 categories/day & 100 on each category] & 50 q's on kaplan)..that's how i review intensively...well except for saturdays & sundays i'm just going to read some contents & rationales...

Okay i have to ask you all does "gelatin 30 ml" count as intake? Or just liquids and IVF?

According to my understanding, and what I see in Davis, "no" gelatin is not considered Intake. You only count items that are LIQUID at ROOM temperature. Gelatin will not be liquid at room temperature, but ice-cream is! Get it?:)

This topic is up for debate.

"Intake and Output (I&O)

The amount of fluid taken into the body and the amount of fluid lost should be just about equal. The intake and output is frequently measures and recorded. Imbalances in intake and output can result in fluid imbalances such as edema (water retention) and dehydration.

Intake

Intake includes everything taken in that is liquid at room temperature. For example, included in the intake fluids are:

-Water or tea

-Gelatin, junket, pudding, ice cream

-Fluids given directly into a vein (IV)

-Fluids given NG or gastric tube.

Output

The output includes all fluids lost. This includes:

-Urine

-Perspiration

-Blood

-Diarrhea

-Vomiting"

(page 301, Assisting in Long term care, 4th edition by B. R. Hegner & J.F. Needham)

Also, I've been working in the Geriatric field for approximately 4yrs and we've always counted gelatin in our sheets. However, I am not sure how this translates to the NCLEX world so does anyone else have sources further elaborating on this topic so we can assist those who are taking the NCLEX soon...? Thank you.

Thanks Takiyah
