NCLEX-RN advice for 3rd time test-taker??

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey everyone!

I'm scheduled to take my NCLEX-RN for the 3rd time (uughhh) in a couple weeks. I'll admit the 1st time I took it I didn't study as much as I should have, but the 2nd time I worked sooo hard and ended up with 265 questions. I've been studying for about a month already for this test, but I'm starting to get really nervous. I've been using a Saunders book and CD (for practice questions) and Mark Klimek's review books.

I was just wondering if anyone had any little tips, pointers, or advice for me? I feel like I'm not doing something right but I can't figure out what it is! Anxiety was a big issue for me the first time, but I wasn't as nervous my second time. Any help is greatly appreciated!! :redpinkhe

Hi Amy,

I'd suggest looking at my post "long time lurker...first time poster" for some motivation. I passed on the 3rd attempt and it's just my experience with it; along with some prayers that I must say were THE reason that I passed. All the best!

Hope you are successful this time.

I sincerely hope as well that you are successful this time.

However, God forbid, IF you happen to go to 265, doesn't matter what you ve done in the past questions....on question #264, do me a favor, take a five minute break, wash your face, freshen up, eat a snack, come back, and spend the remainder of your time pondering on that question. Do everything in your power to get it right. Because, if it is a level 2 question, and you answer it correctly, you PASSED, regardless of what or how you did on the other 264. QUESTION 265 WILL MAKE OR BREAK YOU, provided it is a level 2 question, which means that you are above the passing standard at that time.

I read this on the NCSBN student preparation site before they updated. However, do your own research as well before taking my word for it.

When I had 265 questions my second time, I was starting to get burnt out. Around question 200 I stopped analyzing the questions so much because I was over it. I wish I would have known this before!! Oh well, at least now I know if it happens to me again! :)

I can relate to how you are feeling. I graduated in June 2010 took the test and failed three times!!!!

I had 101 question the first time, 75 the second time and 75 the third time. I was so frustrated and and didn't know how else to go on but i knew i wanted to be a nurse so i had to keep pushing myself...

I took the test for the 4th time this passed Wednesday and found out today that i pass today with 75 questions!!!

My advice to you is to stay consistent and never doubt yourself....you have to stay confident and know that you can do it...

To study the fourth time around i used Saunders 4th edition for content review and questions. I also used nclex 3500 hundred...these are great materials for nclex...

I also study did at least 50 questions five days a week and wrote down things i didn't know very well and went over it after i was done with the question each day....I studied about 3 hrs a day for about a month.

If i could do it i know you too can...just remember to stay focus no matter what...I wish you the best of luck on your next attempt...

I did mine in PA....and those are all good signs...i realize that if u have no cal and stop at 75 u definately pass....if u get 3 or more cal questions and stop at 75 then u fail...happen to me both times when I fail with 75 questions...this last time I only had 1cal question, lots or SATA , delegation and who would u see first question...

thanks for the advice! and congrats on passing this time!! :yeah: i think one of my biggest downfalls is not feeling confident when i walk in that room. monday i plan on getting my nails done, my hair done, and going shopping - the whole shabang - just so i feel a little better about myself when i take my test tuesday lol.
