NCLEX 265 questions

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey guys,

I am new to all nurses.com. Just graduated in May 2013, BSN and just took my NCLEX today (06/27). It took me 41/2 hours to complete the max 265 questions...has anyone had 265 questions? I feel defeated and my anxiety level is like through the roof right now waiting for my results. I'm really hope I passed with 265.!!

Aloha,

Chassie

MaisieMosca,

Hey, yes it's so depressing knowing that I failed...especially when my classmates that took it so far have passed. But I know there is nothing I can do now except study harder...and I know I need to focus on Prioritizing assignments! I had so much questions like that!

Where are you from? I am from Hawaii...

Likewise! I failed at 265 about 2 weeks ago as well. I did Helen Feuer & the NCSBN review the first time. This time I purchased Kaplan and Saunders. I REFUSE to fail. The first time I had gotten some REALLY bad news so my mind was elsewhere in all honesty. I'm in FL, but if you're all looking for a study buddy maybe we can set something up? Let me know :angrybird5:

monicaa_rn,

I refuse to fail again as well! I just purchased the Kaplan-RN 2013-2014 review book and the PDA by LaCharity...hopefully they come in soon so I can start studying those and practicing questions similar to those that I encountered on NCLEX. I live in Hawaii, so committing to being a study buddy might be difficult, but we can definitely keep in touch through this forum! :)

I will say that Kaplan worked really well for me, because the Qbank shows you how to answer questions the "NCLEX" way. It's expensive, but worth it. They also have a PDF that you can download. I used Saunders to review. Every practice test that I did, I went through all of the rationales, right or wrong. If I got the question wrong because I didn't know the content, I went to Saunders to review the topic. I would say that other NCLEX study methods are good for content, but Kaplan made me feel like I knew how to answer the questions. It helps that the online tests look like the NCLEX, so when I was taking the test it felt like I was sitting at home doing Kaplan.

nsti,

Thanks for your advice...how much was Kaplan to do the qbanks? I went to their site and it says like $299 for 3 trainers? I think...my instructor from nursing school advised me to take the online Virtual ATI...we used ATI during school, but I found that ATI questions are NOT at all like the nclex questions...ATI was more content based rather than applying and prioritizing...so idk im kind of in a stump as to what to study...but i did order the Kaplan 2013-2014 review book and the PDA by LaCharity...

I took my boards friday and just found out I passed with 75 questions (hooray!). I used Kaplan a little (I answered all of the questions but I didn't read the chapters) and went through the whole Virtual ATI program. I keep hearing that ATI questions aren't like NCLEX questions but I don't think that's necessarily true. I really believe that ATI was the main factor in my success.

Also I want to share the one simple question to ask for prioritization questions: Who could die?

It seems so simple and basic, but once I started asking that my practice scores went WAY up.

Also, the strategies available in ATI and Kaplan helped me almost as much as content review. Make sure you review the strategies! You know you're going to get questions about drugs/diseases you aren't really familiar with and the strategies will help you get those questions right regardless.

I take NCLEX in a week and I just finished going through the Kaplan book you purchased. It is basically the Kaplan course in a self study book form with less practice questions (although if you count the disc and online access questions it's prob not much less). I couldn't get myself to spend so much on the Kaplan course as many of my friends did and when comparing the book to the course they took, it's comparable. Just make sure to read the beginning chapters on how to answer questions, it really is helpful. The LaCharity book is great as well, good luck with studying and passing the NCLEX!

That's awesome! Happy for you that you passed with 75! It's great hearing that the virtual ati helped you...I'm thinking about doing the virtual but gosh i really don't want to spend $230 for that...ontop of the $200 for nclex...and since I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and they only offer the nclex on Oahu, i need to pay for airfare and hotel. It's sooo expensive! Especially since I didn't pass the first time...but thank you for your input! Greatly appreciate it and congratualtions again!!

Hey, yeah I won't purchase the course because it's already costing me so much $$$ to retake the nclex...but thank you for your advise! and best of luck with nclex next week!

I took the NCLEX yesterday, and after reaching 265, I left feeling like I failed and said, "I studied so much and did great in nursing school, to come and fail here.' AND I got my results today and passed!!!:woot:

Thank you!!! I studied for 3 weeks, every day 4 hours in the morning and 2 hours at night and the last week I studied all day using ATI NCLEX book along with the courses.

Jael11,

Awesome job! I've actually been using the Virtual ATI, they let me join the class for free, it's okay. But I'll definately look at the ATI NCLEX book since you mentioned it...congrats again!
