Nclex pn 12/23

Ok, I took it yesterday. I am slightly annoyed as I studied my tush off for MONTHS, and I got 3 med questions, not a lot on disease processes, NOTHING on pregnancy and i got a a TON of those "alternate format" questions. Mostly the "select all that apply". Needless to say it shut off at 85 and I honestly have no clue how I did. they all seemed difficult, they never had the answer that sets off the lightbulb in your head. Not at all what I expected. I am going to guess that with Christmas Day encroaching on my 48 hour period, that I won't get online results until Friday the 26th. Who knows.....I am just freaking because I can't even guess at a pass or fail. Anyone else have that problem?

I used Saunders review Book, Additional question book and Saunders Flashcards. I bought the Kaplan book, and it helped me to understand what I was walking to. I finished nursing school in 1997, so I had A LOT of studying to do. I read the book first, and then it was questions, questions, questions for a month. You can do it! Just study.....and stay calm! Plus my mom says eat peppermint before a test, it stimulates your brain. I ate a ton of Altoids in the hall before my test!

I used all of the same books that you used but didn't think the flashcards were that helpful.

I carried them in my purse with me and used them everywhere I went, like at work, or on the bus, stuff like that. Plus if I couldn't sleep I would lay in bed and do flashcards until I couldn't stay awake. I really liked them.....but we all learn different ways!

How did you find a job so fast? There don't seem to be ANY LPN positions up here in Seattle. It's making me insane! Where did you look to find the jobs you applied to?

I'm in LPN's have no problem finding jobs in assisted living/long term care facilities. Hospitals don't won't to pay us what we're worth so most LPN's don't work in hospitals unless they've been there for a long time. I just went to google and put in assisted living/long term care facilities and called them. I filled out the application on Wednesday and went for the interview Thursday morning and by noon, I was offered the position. Orientation begins on Monday. Non of my friends have had any problem finding a job.

I must add that I checked with four facilities and all had some type of position but this one had 7am to 3 pm which is what I was looking for. Anyhow, good luck in your job search. I'm sure you'll find something soon. :redbeathe

That is where I have been going wrong! I have been looking at hospitals! I am gonna google assisted care and long term care now! Thanks so much! Hopefully they have nights so I can still go to school and finish my RN!

Forgot to mention that I also used the phone book and let us know when you find a job.

Hi nursesarah001, I completed my PN program on 12/22 and planning on taking my NCLEX exam in march. If you don't mind can you share how you prepared for the exam, all the books you have used and how many questions did you do a day. I have Saunders comprehensive review and the Saunders Q & A book. Also are the NCLEX questions anything like the questions in the Saunders's books. Ex such as disease processes, and medications. Help I need studying tips. Thanks.

ok! well first thing i did was read the review book cover to cover because i had been out of nursing school since 1997 and i had to refresh. i had worked as practical nurse in the national guard in 2006 and 2007, but i had to learn disease processes all over again. so i read the book and i only had time at the weekend really. so i would study for about 8 or 9 hours a day saturday and sundays. then when i got that book done, i started using the cd's and doing the practice questions. like i mentioned previously, i took my flash cards everywhere i went, so when ever i had a minute i could study. i would do about 50 to 75 questions a day after work and at the weekend, i did them for a few hours. but remember, i had a lot more to work to do with refreshing than you will. but i say if you do 50 to 100 a day you'll be set. as for the similarity to nclex, they help, but to prepare you for the actual test experience i recommend reading the 2009 kaplan nclex pn book. that really helped me understand the test, how it worked and what to expect. it teaches you how to break the questions down and to me that was invaluable. just have faith in yourself. you can do it.:wink2: and if you need anything else, you can always email me . i'll help as much as i can!

Thanks a lot! So you recommend doing Saunders and I should purchase the flash cards and do about 50-100 daily? Also I should definately get a Kaplan review book closer to the testing date?

Congrats to those of you who passed!!!

Kaplan also has a Q-Bank for around $100.00 bucks that wasn't wonderful but I think it was worth the money
