NCLEX-PN Harder or easier than you thought?

Published

Just wondering what you all thought about the nclex-pn exam. Was it harder than you thought it'd be or were you pleasantly surprised with it being easier than you thought it'd be?

I am scheduled to take mine Sept 16. I am both nervous to take it and ready to be done with it at the same time.

Definately much harder than I anticipated. I took the test today. I had lots of prioritization and SATA's. checked the pearsonvue trick and got the good popup but now I have to wait for the results.

Took mine yesterday and shut down at 85. Felt shell-shocked and a little dazed walking out. Came home and did PVT and was shaking, with heart pounding, by the time I pushed the last button! Got the good pop-up! Then my computer went dead and I realized all the power was off in my county. It just turned on again a little while ago. Thank goodness I finished my exam shortly before the power went out. My heart goes out to those who were still testing when I left, because they will have to come back another day to take their test. Can you imagine? I was worried the black out affected my test delivery but I just checked the PVT again and still getting good pop-up. Hope it's true! So excited but still can't quite believe it til I see the official results. I studied for months and really hope it's over!

Hey mem!

So glad to hear you passed! How was the test and any tips or questions you remember? My test got cancelled friday so I will be driving 1hr to syracuse to take the test. Any new tips since you have taken it and succeeded!

Upstate, prioritization is huge.

Hi Upstate! Gosh, that is one tough test to describe. Every one said that before, but now I know what they meant. Some of it you def need to know your content details, but other parts you just have to use your best nursing judgment from the selections offered. Now that I've taken the test, it seems essential to be calm and read the questions carefully and also read the answers carefully. Have a good rationale for why you are picking your answer choice. I actually think some of the SATA were easier than the single answer questions. I was thinking about you yesterday, sorry to hear about your cancelled test. I wrote to you on your other post. The two weeks will fly. I would continue to study the prototype meds and the common diseases they are used for. In fact, I plan to do this myself anyway because I feel the clients are counting on us to know this stuff and there's like 90,000 meds out there! Have you reviewed the Kaplan critical thinking/test-taking strategies? I think they are quite helpful.

Oh, I forgot to ask you. Do you have a testing center near your house but you have to go to Syracuse because that's where the next test date is available? I don't know how it works where you are, but here you can check on Pearson Vue anytime of any day for an opening at a different test center. It changes by the minute as people are frequently cancelling/changing their test dates. When you check, don't push "Unschedule." Instead, push "Reschedule" and it will allow you to just browse without losing the date you already have. If you see some other time slot you like at a testing center closer to you, you can change it on the spot.

Hey thanks for the info. I will be driving to syracuse this tuesday to take my test! Did you find that doing practice questions helped you with learning how to answer or did you actually recognize questions that you have done before.

Thanks for the reply's everyone!

I think doing the practice questions was very helpful in learning content. It actually helped me learn the content better than just reading out of a book. Good luck to you on Tuesday! :)

thank you will let you know results 0f pvt by 11am

I'll be praying for you, Upstate! God bless!

I took the Nclex-lpn 3 years ago with 85 questions and it was alot harder than the Nclex-Rn that i just took today which cut off @ 141 questions. Out of the entire 85 questions on the lpn-nclex i knew i got about 5 of them right for sure! But i passed!
