NCLEX-PN Harder or easier than you thought?

Published

Just wondering what you all thought about the nclex-pn exam. Was it harder than you thought it'd be or were you pleasantly surprised with it being easier than you thought it'd be?

I am scheduled to take mine Sept 16. I am both nervous to take it and ready to be done with it at the same time.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

It was easier than I had expected and I passed with the minimum of 85 questions.

Thanks! That is good to know. :) My ATI predictor exam predicts that I have a 99% chance passing the nclex-pn on the first try....I sure hope so!

I'll let you know in 2 days lol. I'm taking the NCLEX PN.

Since you have some more time to study, I'd suggest looking at other resources, if you have not done that yet. ATI might be enough for some but I think most people look elsewhere for better study materials.

I took my ATI Predictor (did not really study for that one) and got a 97% chance of passing. Been using Saunders, Lippincott, ATI, and Kaplan RN. I'm a bit skeptical of ATI because most of their questions are based on information recall only; I get annoyed when they place lab values that have a 0.1 difference from the norm. Doesn't really help in the long run, IMO. To top that, the amount of questions in their Q bank is very limited. But the thing I dislike the most about them are the rationales (mostly, lack thereof) for the questions. Stating that A, C, D are not the answer, and B is **insert quote from question here** should not count as a rationale.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes.... :)

I am doing a little bit of studying...I am doing Lippincott and I have a Kaplan strategy book with some questions and I plan on trying their question bank as well. I have not spent nearly the amount of time so far that I had planned but hopefully, I can get more focused. :/

Hi, Just wondering if anyone who is studying for the NCLEX-PN is having trouble with rote memorization? I did very well in nursing school, but I would study for hours for every single test, and the subject matter was specific to one system. Now that NCLEX time is here (with many from my class and on this site receiving over 30 SATA questions), I feel very pressured to memorize all subject matter in detail, which I am finding nearly impossible. My old study methods do not work on a comprehensive test like this and I have put off the test three times due to last-minute overwhelming test fear. I just can't seem to remember finer details. Is this a problem with my brain or do others experience this? Is it going to be a problem in passing? I would like to know!

My test is TOMORROW. I've studied for seriously hundreds of hours over the last 5 months, scoring around 85% on Saunders cd. Still do not feel ready when I read the Saunders book, it's overwhelming to me. In addition, everyone says the real test is nothing like Saunders at all! BUT I am NOT cancelling this test again. Please, please pray for me. Thank you!! Will pray for all on here who are about to test, too! God bless us :)

Sounds like you will do fine! Good luck!

Oh- I can't remember fine details for lost of stuff either. I just hope that I know enough to pass. :)

*lots not lost.... :/

It was deifinitely harder than I expected. I took Mine Sept. 6th and just found out this morning that I passed!:) Just stay calm and pray. Go over labs and diseases. YOU CAN DO IT! 86% of students pass on the first try.

Definitely harder. You're gonna get questions about drugs and situations you've never even thought of before and you have to think of the rationale for each option. I took my time with each question - mainly because I got tons of prioritization Qs and about 10-15 SATAs. Just got my results and passed with 85Q!!!!

The entire test took me about 2 hours lol.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely brush up on the labs and drug classifications...

I am so nervous! :/

SATA for me is difficult. That's why I need a lot of practice and preparation prior to taking the NCLEX. Is Saunders book a great help?
