NCLEX in on Oct 10th

Hi everybody i'm getting ready to take the NCLEX and i'm not gonna lie i'm scared to death about it. I recently taken the KAPLAN review and the following are my scores (45% of Qbanks completed and averaging about 65-70%; 59%= diagnostics, 61%= Q1, 55%= Q2, 50%= Q3, 49%= Q4, 61%= Q5, 58%= Q6 and 62%= Q7 and readiness= 62%) I know these scores are really low and haven't really been able to hit anything higher than 60's in my Qtrainers. Anyone who took Kaplan before taking the boards and passed the NCLEX have similar grades to mine?

First, you have to be confident. The NCLEX requires endurance. Passing Kaplan does not ensure that you will pass this test. You have to make sure that you have a good foundation of nursing knowledge because this is what the test is about. Prioritization, ABC's, Maslow's hierarchy, Nursing process. These are the keys to your exam and of course controlling anxiety.

Secondly, put the 75 myth behind you. Most students become very frazzled when they are approaching this milestone and do not appear to be passing. Remember it is not a race. You have 6 hours and 265 questions.

Thirdly, be calm, be confident, be committed to getting through the exam. Practice some deep breathing techniques for when things begin to feel tough. Your goal is to get through this exam. Good luck.

Goodluck to you and wish you the best, as the 2nd Poster said it is definitely true take it easy and I know you can do it!

I totally feel you. I am taking my NCLEX on the 12 and I am as scared as you are. I have been studying with Saunders exclusively and my scores are around 70%. Is that good? I don't know... I come across questions where I have no clue what they are talking about and some are so easy where I ask myself-are they serious? I have done about 4000 questions..you would think I am so prepared..but why do I feel so unprepared?

I would appreciate some thoughts as well...

Good luck fmaca88! Tell me how your exam went.

God Bless and Good luck. update us on how you do

Thank you for the words of encouragement!! I feel pretty good about the exam as of right now but i don't know how i will feel when i walk into the room. I plan to do some breathing exercises before i start and hopefully that will calm my nervous down :). Not losing hope pass 75 questions is something i'm afraid of. I'm hoping I can keep my concentration if i do go over the minimum questions required..

I believe 70's are good. You have to remember that technically you can miss almost half the questions as long as you stay above the passing line. I think the reason why you feel unprepared is because you don't know what to expect. We hear dreadful stories regarding the NCLEX and those stories put negative thoughts in our heads. Just like Dr. Baker stated when we walk into the testing facility we need to stay calm and have confidence when we take the test. Thats all we can do.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Miniangel2 and bkshadow!!! Keep me in your prayers!!!

Thank you. You are right. Let's be confident and do our best :) good luck to you. I will keep you in my prayers. Let me know how it went!!!!

I studied with lippincott book and scores were ranging in the 60-80's. I took the nclex yesterday and got the good pop up so hopefully that will be right! The best info I got from my DON is focus and go over your test taking stragities. Remember ABC's, Maslows, and the nursing process. Look for clues in the questions like (female, geriatric, asian etc). Ask yourself what the question is asking you and don't over analyze and add things to the question that isn't there. Keep it simple. Breathe and focus and you will do great. Good Luck to you!!!

Thank you for the information!! Alot of people say that anxiety is what gets them when taking this test. Breathing, focusing and taking your time will be the key to passing this exam.

Hi there! Just want to share my nclex experience to you, hope this helps a lil bit. I took my exam last Oct.8,2013 and some questions are really quite fresh in my mind. The computer shut down to around 130 questions, i got more than 20 SATA's, 2 calculations, 1 drag and drop and a hell lots of medications as well as priority questions.

Mostly, maybe around 30% of the questions pertains to INFECTION CONTROL. study which ones are airborne, droplet and Contact prec, keep in mind as well what kind of PPE are used in each cases, these questions are quite tricky. As for medications, study for LOPID, CLONIDINE, ATROVENT, BETA1 Agonist, IMITREX, BetaBlockers and Ace inhibitors. I think nlcex loves this meds so much. :) Prioritization is more on cohorting and delegation to new nurses. I remember my drag and drop is about placing bedpan,so keep those in mind too... :)

If ur wondering if i passed the exam, i still dont know yet.. LOL! checked on PVT and had a good pop up, so does my hopes up!

Goodluck and Pray not for easy questions, but for questions you know you can answer confidently. ohh btw, MY kaplan Scores are quite close to yours, average of 55-60's! hahaha! so keep the hopes high!
